I’ll wager the “float through” window is on the deeper side...

Based on the pic I measured on GE and see that its app 400 ft from either shore and certainly not right in front of anyones house.

That's the platform they use to dump all their waste oil into the lake from... (some on here would think). Those are cool pictures!! Not an eyesore at all to me. I think it's pretty cool, but that's just me, I like seeing people having a good time and enjoying themselves!!! That's the whole purpose of being out on the water! I wish them well, hope they survive the whiner's and complainer's.

C’mon...they would never do that! Besides, the kitchen fans blow all the oil out naturally...

I think the same exact thing when I see a bunch of motorcycles lined up in front of a bar on the FIRST (nice) day of spring after a long winter...

Outdoorsman 08-04-2018 08:19 AM

From an article in the Daily Sun regarding a ride along with Marine Patrol

Smalls Cove

At Smalls Cove, the officers saw a problem with boats at anchor near a sandbar. Marker buoys had been set up 150 feet from shore, showing that boats should be at least that far out before anchoring.

A few boats were too close to shore, and the officers told the owners to move them. A jet ski was parked on the beach. Dunleavy found the owner at a nearby floating restaurant, determined he didn’t own the land where his personal watercraft was parked, and told him to move it.

All this was accomplished in a friendly, educational manner.

“The majority of time we’re dealing with boaters recreating and they’ve made a mistake,” he said as the patrol boat returned to headquarters in Gilford.

“We’re here to educate, and that’s our primary mission, to educate and maintain a safe environment to recreate.”

So now quenching your thirst after a long Spring, bike ride being blasted by road sand and other kinds of road debris along with avoiding clueless, car drivers that make it a harrowing and life threatening experience is bad in your not-so-humble opinion? Stick with boats and the subject at hand...

First of all, you COMPLETELY missed my point, and second, if you can show me where it's written that I can't mention the word "motorcycle" on a boating forum, I will apologize. Until then, I really don't think it's up to you to get to tell me, (or anyone for that matter), what subject matter I/we need to stick to, unless you can show me where that is written also. I won't be holding my breath...

First visit on the Dive today. 5th person on the boat and ordered 2 appetizers less than 5 minutes after opening for the day..25 minutes go by..30 minutes... after asking 3 times how much longer ( after seeing everyone around us getting their food) she finally says she’ll go Check... anyways, 55 minutes into it I asked to pay the tab for the 2 drinks we had and split! Looks like some kinks to work out here on the ‘ol Dive... maybe I should go back in October when they aren’t so busy?

There’s always a chance that an order can “fall through the cracks” at any dining establishment. Still, your personal experience matters as well as your time, wasted, attempting to give a new venue your business...strike one!

Dive

Interesting answer from the Dive on a post on their FB page. Some one as many have, asked when they will go to Braun or somewhere else. The Dive replied, "maybe someday." But they like Smalls because their close to supplies, storage is at WAM, Braun is a long ride for the Dive and employee shuttles, also business is very good there. Even if they do try somewhere else, doesn't like a regular occurrence.

Phantom 08-08-2018 10:14 AM

Thanks Taz ( as I do not follow FB) -

Interesting because my wife & I watched the Dive come out of WAM one day last week and set up -- she is surely a "slow mover" and NOT as maneuverable as one would think.

We conversed amongst ourselves that it would take 1/2 day to get to Braun or God forbid they try and go down the Weirs Channel to the Margate. Although we considered that barge itself probably only needs a Captain and perhaps one other crew member, the Staff could be shuttled over at a later time (once Set up).

Makes sense. If they are making money where they are why invest in the travel time and gas money to go elsewhere? The only way they could ever really make an appearance in Braun or Meredith or anywhere else is if they home port more in the center of the lake; maybe Glendale ish. Or, maybe do a tour of the lake and spend a week parked overnight at various marinas around the lake in each area.

Taz 08-08-2018 10:50 AM

Dive

I agree. I have said all along, in prior posts on this thread as well, I am not convinced the Dive will go anywhere else or at least very seldom because its slow. Owner says 7-8 mph. The owner mentioned employee shuttle. Maybe because if it's at Braun all day employes would have to be reliefed, different shifts. Although you can do that it's just that much more difficult. If they run out of something it's a long haul compared to Smalls.

I think more likely they will do ticketed events such as booze cruise and private functions such as weddings rather than move to other sand bars. Even with ticketed event, where would you board? WAM? Maybe Alton town docks but would there be enough parking at Alton town docks if it was at capacity?

Momo 08-08-2018 05:52 PM

We are far enough away, but watch it come out as early as 7:30 AM some days - it is clear that it is slow and not easy to maneuver. Perhaps they have to go out early to secure their spot on the sandbar to beat their own potential customers. Some days it goes in late afternoon if weather is bad or nobody is at the sandbar. Today, they claimed they did not go out because they were getting “ready for the weekend”. Seriously??
It takes a lot of Buds and Burgers to make a profitable business based on one sandbar and hoping for good weather and repeat customers. Does not seem like a viable business if this is their only plan.

I think it is critical that they set up in a "strategic" location, so they can serve not only the people at the sandbar, but passerby's as well, so they NEED to be the first one out!! They need to be on the outskirts of the sandbar to serve BOTH potential customer's, hence the drive thru. The more exposure they get, the more the word will spread around the lake that they exist, and it may be more beneficial to them to stay in one place so that people will get to know where they are at at all times, and it will just be another choice on the lake of "where do I want to go out to eat today" for all boater's. If I was in charge of the Dive, I would have big, colorful flyer's advertising the Dive at every marina, liquor store, convenient store, and gas station on the entire lake where every (potential) boater on the lake would see them, if they haven't done so already. The biggest challenge to any new business is getting the word out that they are here and open for business!! Only time will tell. I hope they don't go down the same road as the (Laconia) Holy Grail... I think as long as they get enough good boating weather, (on weekends especially), they will be fine. (Sometimes) it just sucks to own any business that is at the mercy of Mother Nature, especially when you are just starting out...

This should get interesting...

This cruise is in DIRECT competition with the Mount....

It will be interesting to see if they can actually get permission to dock/pick up/drop off at the Weirs.... I do know for a fact that Laconia REFUSED to let the Winni Belle pick up a wedding party at the docks...

I see the customer base for the Mount and the Dive as pretty different. No reason they can't coexist

Say-hey......maybe the Dive can stop at the very sandy Gov Island two tennis court beach area, lower the launch ramps, hit the beach, and have a beach party ....... is totally doable ..... everyone is welcome to drop on in and land their helicopters in the tennis courts ..... just be aware of the tennis players.

Make mine a Red Bull w/ tequila ...... roger that! ...... over!

.....who steers this?

With a 60' long barge like that, it's got to be about an 80' run to hook up the steering cables from the steering wheel in the pilot house, up front, to the twin E-Tec 250's on the stern?

Who knows, maybe the outboards have a tiller handle, and it gets steered from the stern, with a hand on the tiller? ....helloooo .... captain here to engine room .... turn it a little to the left ..... and straighten out ...... and maintain speed ..... over

You are right.

Stay tuned. The Dive will not be able to do it either. Not going to happen. It is against the city code and it will be stopped. There are conversations going on now.

the Dive

I just don't see how they can make a go of it long term. Lake pretty dead during the week even during summer (thankfully) and weekend business cannot possibly sustain them.
