No need to congratulate me... I'm just living my life and posting things along the way. Never anything political or controversial in here, and I think most people seem to enjoy something that doesn't go off the rails like a lot of posts do. I mean, where else can you go to see cats on boats, a second Sally's Gut location, or rental Renaults straightening out Glendale dock posts...not to mention lizards being transported off the island? It's all in fun, just the way it should be! Some of the funniest things in this thread have been posted by others who chime in, and I really enjoy that as well!!!

Maybe it's a different kind of senile and I posted on another thread... was a comment about a rather overweight topless protester at Weirs Beach! ;-)

Topless Sally's Gut

I remember that thread. In this case however, I thought you might be referring to the passage between Mark and Mink. Maybe we should have a naming contest? One of the few places on Winnipesaukee where you go between the two red top buoys.

Good question....been here for years and I have no idea if it has an official name. I have a suggestion... Charlotte, our beloved pit bull, loved everyone and would frequently go off on her own to visit many of the islanders. They loved her visits and looked forward to her showing up. I would get texts sometimes from folks asking why she hadn't been around to visit. 2 years ago, she got into some mouse / rat poison that somebody must have used while winterizing. The emergency vet was optimistic that we had caught it in time, but she passed away before the antidote could take effect. My vote for the new name is Charlotte's Gut... she sure spent a lot of time down there ! :-)

Descant 10-21-2024 03:52 PM

We have Sally's Gut, Becky's Garden. I'd go for Charlotte's Passage, so each name is unique.

How about "Flo's Folly", "Rick's Reef", or "Erin's Revenge"? When I was a kid, my great uncle had a camp on Mark just opposite the buoy. We'd fish off the dock in the channel and watch one Capt. Bonehead after another ground themselves on the wrong side of the buoy. Granted it's probably been 25-30 years since I've been there. Have people coming through there gotten any smarter?

Oh ok. It sure was locked in! It was strange, east side of the lake cleared much quicker than Laconia.

it always seems to be different...some mornings I'm in the clear but I look over toward Governors and it's all fogged in. Other times the fog is all to the east or north.... yesterday it was all in Gilford!

LoveLakeLife 10-25-2024 08:48 PM

You’d need a big pair of scissors to cut that fog …..

When you pulling out Steve?….

I still have one boat in and will keep it in for another 3 weeks or so. Just waiting for some work at the camp to be complete then it’s coming out.

Yup! Nice to have Glendale, the lake and the island all to myself!

Today's lake level report... maybe 8 inches of water under the bow. Full lake touches the dock framing.

..... new overnight ice formed is not a serious problem.

You know there is never enough ice formed overnight to keep a motorboat trapped, somewhere. Most any motorboat can easily motor through one or two inches of ice at a slow speed like 5-mph and probably even up on plane at 25-mph. The vee hull zips through the ice like a knife and easily breaks it through when there is just one inch ice, no problem.

Cutting through the ice like that is a piece of cake.

Breaking ice

I, and a friend, also from Welch, stayed overnight once after Christmas. The next morning, Glendale was frozen over. A few turns around the bay created enough waves to break up the ice. This was maybe 1964, so no cell phones, radios, CB, etc. Foolish by today's standards.

I have heard that from you before..... Just start doing a Rain Dance.....
Looks like they filed Winnisquam back up, and clamp the dam again....
so a nice little bit of Rain, and things will be good to go......

It's crazy how low they dropped Winnisquam and how quickly it filled back up. Next thing you know I'll be plowing into submerged trees and guardrails...no, that'll be you! :-)
