I can only imagine, and can you imagine you actually survived to tell about it, well what you remember :D

Real quiet in the Weirs today—not many bikes on our ride from Moultonborough Neck to Gilford.

Less people than a regular weekend and end of summer week.

Since Friday, Weirs has been very quiet, and Meredith, Weirs and Wolfeboro docks were wide open with zero waiting.

The little biker action i saw looked like all over 50 crowd.

The solution to beating the pandemic appears to have killed the patient as well (dead economy)

Its shocking to see it so quiet. I'll bet there not even selling much gas.

Despite turnover in elected officials, I think this is what the Laconia City Council has wanted since 1963. They just could never quite figure a way to actually shut it down. A non-existent 2020 Bike Week will make it difficult for vendors etc to start up again in 2021.

I think it's been very quiet this week too. Quieter than all summer- since May in fact.

I live near the weirs and it has been pretty quite as far as bikes go especially during the week there was more activity last weekend but probably 10% of normal but I expected this with the date move. Remember not only no vendors or activities and Broken Spoke closing for the event as not to have trouble with the liquor commission, may rooms this week had already been booked by regular vacationers.

I disagree with the difficulty of vendors returning next year. Many are pop ups with little expenses. Obviously didn’t pay rent this year and had plenty of time to adjust inventory.

Little M/C traffic yesterday

Yesterday morning, I had to go to Manchester.

I went down 28 to Chichester, then 393-93-293 to Manchester. Returned 93-393-106 to Gilford Lowe's, then 11 to Alton Bay.

No groups of note, perhaps 4 or 5 groups of 6-8 M/Cs. Just not out there at all. Even going by restaurants, few cycles seen in parking lots. Very few in the Alton Bay parking lot just before 1pm.

..... NH towns with enforced mask ordinance

Plymouth, NH recently passed an enforced mask town ordinance that requires people to wear a face mask in public, and Plymouth has at least two large sign boards located at road entry areas to town that say "Wear A Mask, Its The Law".

Plymouth NH is home to Plymouth State University that has something like 4000 students.

These large orange electric signboards look like they probably came from the NH Dept Transportation for use on Route 93, and are now in use in Plymouth Main St areas.

As of August 10, according to a NHPR article, the NH towns of Durham, Enfield, Hanover, Keene, Lebanon, Newmarket, and now Plymouth have decided to go with enforced mask mandates.

August 25, 2020: Associated Press; "Revved by Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Covid 19 Infections Move Fast and Far."
WCVB-Boston has the story: http://www.wcvb.com/article/revved-b...d-far/33799811

Have noticed that people inside the stores in Gilford, Meredith, Plymouth all seem to be wearing masks, and taking it serious. Noticed my favorite store in Laconia, the Saint Vincent de Paul thrift store has reopened for business. This is the place to go for one dollar, donated tee shirts from last years Bike Week ....... such a deal!

Just drove through the Weirs. Much more activity today than Monday or Tuesday and I except it will increase for this coming weekend but again maybe 10% at best of the normal volume

Phantom 08-26-2020 10:39 AM

Bike activity today along 11B (Gilford) noticeably much more brisk than days past.

However -- the Weather for the weekend looks like it will cut the traffic.

Paugus Bay Resident 08-26-2020 11:22 AM

Bike traffic (groups) has been pretty steady on 107

Well, to isn't June, but we're getting a good taste of Bike Week weather :(

joey2665 08-27-2020 05:20 PM

Volume of bikes seemed to be less today than yesterday near the Weirs.

Well we got bike week 2020 in the books, just shy of our 1000 mile goal. The week was quiet for sure but we did see bikes out and about. the usual spots were busy like lincoln the kanc and the gas stops. Bike traffic was busy Friday, I think today would have been jammed if it was sunny. Funny that my starter crapped out when loading the trailer, go figure. Found a lot of new roads, lots of laughs and too many desserts - success

People can disagree about Bike Week, politics, etc. but too many of our local papers' letters are just meanness and insults.

In the interest of not generating personal insults to the author of the letter, I will simply comment on your post; well said.

https://archive.is/dXIIV ....... no subscription needed link to Washington Post article on Sturgis Motorcycle Week and spreading the coronavirus through the mid-west.

Nothing like this mid-west spread seems to have happened here in New Hampshire with the very modified 2020 Laconia bike week. Allowing cars to park in the usual Lakeside Ave, one dollar parking spaces, made it look like any other regular day as opposed to a crowded and super busy, happening bike week.

It was like the bike week that never happened, and similarly was never a C-19 spreader event what with everyone there required to be wearing a face mask. "Wear a face mask, or go to jail" was the rule in NYC and maybe in Boston too, in the 1918-pandemic.

www.sturgis-sd.gov/webcams-in-and-around-sturgis ...... it's live from Main St, Sturgis, South Dakota; three town webcams. If you look real close at these web cams, you can still see some of those left-over C-19 virus germs hovering in the thin, dry, low humidity South Dakota air. The C-19 thrives in dry air, is what they say.

Installing similar web-cams is what Laconia needs to be doing with their Laconia Main St, Colonial Theatre re-vitalization, as well as their Lakeport Opera House restoration, and present a web-cam view looking up and down the road at these two new theatre and opera house venues ..... to help create some "buzz" for these Laconia go-to entertainment businesses.
