Read And Heed Water is a good friend but a deadly enemy. Learn to swim. You can't think of a better sport to save your life. Never swim alone. Make sure someone is nearby who can help. Swim at a safe bathing place, preferably one with life guards. Don't swim when overheated, overtired, or right after eating. Be sure water is deep enough for diving and has no hidden objects. Know your ability. Distance over water is misleading, Take a boat along for distance swimming in open water. Be courteous. Consider the safety of others. Beware of sunburn, even on a cloudy day. Take it easy. Learn safe handling and self-rescue before going out in boats. Stay with your boat. Most small craft will float when upset. In case of drowning, start artificial respiration at once. Learn more about water safety from your Red Cross The American National Red Cross ...................... After doing a little checking, Camp Kehonka was located in the Town of Alton, off Pipers Point Lane 03809, just to the west of Roberts Cove and it appears that a large section of this Camp Kehonka dock that's shown in the photo may still exist(?) and can be seen on Google-earth. ...................... From the Kehonka link below "Our Songs" ..... this one, "There are Girls" seems appropriate here: There are Girls There are girls who like the water There are girls who don't There are girls who swim and divinely There are girls who always say "I won't" There are girls who do the breast stroke finely There are girls who sometimes do the crawl But the girls who go to Camp Kehonka Are the best - they can do them all. |
You notice there's a camp counselor atop the tower who looks like she is watching intently all the swimmers or non-swimmers as a life guard.
Wonder if she will climb back down the tall tower ladder or slide down the water slide in the front into the water? And, there's a second person, further out on the left, also atop a smaller tower who is life guarding the outer swim area. Today, this same lake spot is most likely out front a waterfront, single family house. The 1960's were the good old days when there were many different summer camps just like this one, Camp Kehonka, 1902-1985. www.kehonka.wordpress.com/camp-kehonka-photos/ |
