The Official ForumFest IV Thread

The Committee has decided on

Saturday September 8, 2007, 2-4 pm
at Cate Park in Wolfeboro, NH for
ForumFest IV.

If someone comes up with an indoor place...even at the last minute.. we will consider changing the location.

We will be conducting a raffle as usual. Quilt Lady has chosen the charity (since she donates the most valuable raffle item, it is only fitting that she pick the cause this year.)

If you want to donate an item, we will be collecting the list later in the season. Additionally we would like to offer tickets for sale to those who cannot make the event... details later... or if you want to volunteer to be take care of this part of the raffle please volunteer as I am the wrong person to do it as many will attest.

We also plan on a PepperFest this year... to celebrate the season's opening of Waldo Peppers... details in another thread when we know the opening date.

Any other Fests that people want to plan....Go for it!!!!!

;) IG and the ForumFest Committee!!!

dmjr 03-24-2007 07:03 PM

Awesome! Now I will be able to plan ahead so I can maybe make it this year.

It is great of you to take the bull by the horns as the saying goes. :)

Pepper 03-24-2007 07:59 PM

FABULOUS!

I'll be there with bells on! :D

Quilt Lady 03-24-2007 08:44 PM

and the winner is . . .

This years FF4 quilt is a bit of a departure for me. It is an "art quilt" suitable for hanging on a wall and is approximately 42 inches square. It contains images from around the lake taken from some of the postcards posted on this website. I will bring it with me to "PepperFest" for a preview . . . even if it isn't completed. Once it is done, DRH will take a picture of it and post it for all to see.

Unless we have a major disaster this year, I would like to chose the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia to receive the proceeds from the quilt raffle. I am a big animal lover and would like to support these good people in their efforts to help homeless animals. My idea of heaven would be to have a cat in every window . . . and live in a glass house.:)

Having a date selected this far ahead, we should have an excellent turnout this year. Make your plans now!!!

dmjr 03-24-2007 09:14 PM

What if it rains. Is there a backup location?

SteveA 03-24-2007 10:18 PM

We're working on several backups

I'm looking into LSP Pavilion as a backup. The Saturday date may be a problem.

Other possibile sites are being "talked to". stay tuned.. :)

The great thing is the date is set far enough in advance to let folks save the date, and plan all those raffle prizes they will donate! :) :)

The charity you picked is purr-fect....

Thumbs Up For Quilt Lady!

Quilt Lady, I agree with SteveA, your NH Humane Society charity choice is doggone purr-fect!
Obviously kitties and doggies are near and dear to your heart.
(And other animals too, of course. ;) )
We cannot wait to see this one of a kind lake memorabilia!!! It is going to be mighty special. Just like you!
(I hope I win, I hope I win, I hope I win!!!)

Three cheers for Quilt Lady

Quilt Lady - Excellent choice for donation this year, NHHS. If you haven't already contacted them about this, the person to speak with is Marylee Gorham. She will be soooooo thrilled. I know I am and I know all the babies at the shelter will be too. Thank you so much for choosing NHHS.

sonj 04-08-2007 07:26 AM

Can't wait!!!!

So glad to see a date planned for the forum. This will be my first attendance and I am so looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible.

I LOVE Quilt Lady's suggestion of the Humane Society for the donation. I would like to make another suggestion. How about the Loon Conservation Center?

For the rest of you... it is time to offer up items for the raffle. We have already seen the incredible quilt that Quilt Lady is donating... what else have we got???

IG

csuhockey3 07-31-2007 03:28 AM

Just might make it....

Hey Folks!

My wife and I just celebrated our 1yr anniversary and bought a new house. We close next week and I'm ITCHING to get back to the lake. I might try to make this work. Here's hoping the schedule works out, if not, I'll just have to send CSUhockeyMom in my place again!

sa meredith 07-31-2007 11:23 AM

excuse my ignorance...

But may I ask...What is ForumFest????

ForumFest is the informal name we've given to what has become an annual get-together of winnipesaukee.com Forum members. The event itself has kind of evolved over time, and each year the turnout seems to grow. ForumFest has become a great time/place to meet other Forum members, match faces to screen names and avatars, and have a great time chatting with other Lake Winnipesaukee lovers. We usually have a raffle to support a local cause, and Quilt Lady's quilt is one of the raffle items.

Here's a link to lots of pictures that have been taken at the three previous ForumFests: ForumFest Photos

SteveA 08-01-2007 06:40 AM

LSP will not be available

IG, Because of the Saturday date.. LSP would not be avaiable :(

Might be a good idea to get some other "indoor" sites suggested and checked out.

Also... let's start the "Raffle Prize" posting... (I'm still working on my donation ;) )

Forum Fest IV

Steve:

What if the date was changed to a Sunday. Would the Pavilion at LSP be available? Why fight success? Anything less than the LSP Pavilion, would be a downer, IMHO.

SteveA 08-06-2007 06:17 PM

Haven't checked

Bill Clarke

Bill,

I haven't looked into the Sunday date... seems like most folks prefer the Saturday date,, LSP is out for that day.

These folks have a good sense of what will work.

PS... I think the event will be great no matter where it is held.. but an open park may make any wireless "broadcast" difficult. (I'll bet LG can make something work!) :) :)

Quilt Lady 08-15-2007 08:44 AM

24 days and counting . . .

It's time to bump this thread back to the top again. If you want to see some REAL celebrities, you have to come to the next ForumFest. You will be able to meet such famous people as Island Girl (of photo fame), history maven - McDude, our social director - Rattlesnake Gal, the infamous Pepper and many others. Who knows, there could even be a special guest star! Be there or be square!:D

And while we are on the topic . . . it looks like only SteveA and I are bringing things for the raffle. We need stuff! Island Girl will be making a list. If there isn't any interest in a raffle this year, I'm sure I can easily sell the quilt to raise money for the New Hampshire Humane Society. Anyone interested in donating things for the raffle? We're waiting to hear from you.

We will see some of you at ForumFest IV! And we'll talk about those who don't show up!

Grant 08-15-2007 09:07 AM

Sounds like you may need the Secret Service to return to town for the event.

Sunset Bob 08-15-2007 12:18 PM

Ok Ok

OK OK I will supply some framed pictures (like last year) At this point I don't know what pics I will choose but will post when I decide.
If anyone has any preference of my photos on photo post please speak up

Looking forward to seeing all the forum folk
Sunset Bob

Island Girl 08-15-2007 06:43 PM

... and we are off and running....

Keep those donations coming... here is the link to what has been offered
http://www.rattlesnakecam.com/ffiv/ffivraffle.pdf

Let's make this a banner year.

We will also need some tables... and food.. but then some of you know that already and have arrived with all sorts of great stuff.

For those who have never been to a Forum Fest... you will not be disappointed...

Last year we had a slow scan video feed running from the fest. Its possible to do that again but as SteveA pointed out, it requires an internet connection. We also need an upload spot on the forum server for the camera to sent its files (FTP) and some 'skins' to go around the video frame that people download. Are there any web page designers out there?

I may have a conflict though. If contingency plans are needed because I can't attend, we'll call for a volunteer to take over operating the camera. First, step one: get it working. :rolleye1:

Island Girl 08-15-2007 07:26 PM

I have the internet connection

I have EVDO Rev a on my laptop... will that do.. I am getting great speed. I have not tried it in Wolfeboro though... often Verizon will not connect from there.

Any WIFI there???

IG

Lakegeezer 08-15-2007 07:39 PM

Options

Wolfeboro is a bit far of a trip for me, but next time I'm there I'll look for wifi in the park. The camera works with ethernet or modem options, but I no longer have an ISP to dial-in to. The cell phone approach might work if there is a signal and somewhere to call. The camera uploads about 540 kilobits for each frame. If we're limited to a speed of 14Kb, we can still get one frame every 30 seconds. That's OK - up to one frame per minute is usually acceptable.

Rattlesnake Guy 08-15-2007 08:00 PM

Our Contribution

RG and I are having a set of coasters made with some of our favorite lake scenes.

Island Girl 08-15-2007 08:02 PM

Electricity

I just did an upload test and got over 600K.. guess that should be enough for you. I have a router that the camera could attach to...

Is there sometime before then that we can test this?

Where are you Lakegeezer?

Has any spot been selected for the fest? If so, can you tell me where it will be? :)

Please reply to this part of the thread if you intend to come to Forum Fest...

I will be there!!!!!:D

Sunset Bob 08-21-2007 01:44 PM

I'll Be there

I'll be there I hope.

BroadHopper 08-21-2007 02:50 PM

As usual

I'm not going to be able to make as my company outing is on this date. I would love to come but the grandkids will be upset if they don't make their annual pilgrimmage to Canobie Lake.

If there is a rain date, then I might be able to make it.

ghfromaltonbay 08-21-2007 03:44 PM

Joisey is coming!

I'll be there, and i will have a book about fishing on the lake for the raffle.

Rattlesnake Gal 08-21-2007 05:56 PM

Hope To See Many of You There!

You should be seeing Rattlesnake Guy and I. We're looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting more forum friends.

Grant, will we finally meet you? After all, you are one of the instigators in the initial ForumFest. ;)

DRH 08-21-2007 07:41 PM

We'll Be There!

Quilt Lady and I wouldn't miss it!

SteveA 08-21-2007 08:40 PM

OK... here is my raffle prize

See this post...

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...+winnipesaukee

see Post 20...

My donation to the raffle is an orginal 1936 edition of " Three Centuries on Winnipesaukee" that I won on Ebay...very rare.

It is in near perfect shape... As many of you have noticed.. Dianne and I are very big supporters of the NH Humane Society. So while I hate to part with it.. the cause is worth it.

Third year in a row

:(
Ok, one of these years perhaps ForumFest will be held on a day that doesn't conflict with the BC football schedule.

I know that "The Eagle" has sworn them off. But I can't, and I work at the games.

So, once again, I'll be there in spirit but not body.

I hope it goes well!

The Eagle 08-22-2007 01:16 PM

FINALLY...I Might make it!

Hi Guys & Gals,
After ALL these years, This IS the year! It looks like I WILL make the Forum Fest! Since I gave up my BC Season tickets, after 27 years, (Rather than pay BC the [Extortion] REQUIRED $1000 per ticket "Donation" to the Flynn Fund) I won't be going to ANY BC football games, and upon checking my Date book, September 8th is BLANK! This will be the first time, I will actually get to meet all the folks that came to support the "Flotilla of Flags," in 2002, and all the Guys and Gals, with whom I've been talking all these years. You'll have to look to find me, though, I will NOT be wearing the Eagle Costume! I'm EXCITED about finally getting to meet some of you! I hope this will be the biggest gathering to date!
"The Eagle"

Skip 08-22-2007 01:55 PM

Possibly.....

I too hope to make it this year.....would like to see some old friends once again and meet some of the new faces out there! :)
