Best Pizza
We'll be at the Lake in a few days and I am wondering if there is any Chicago style pie available, and if so, how good it is?
Also, what is the best "east coast" style pie available near Gilford/Laconia? |

I'll second elacoya and I've heard Heat where JT's used to be was also good but haven't tried it myself
|
Rossi's
Give Rossi's a try. Located on Rt. 104 in NewHampton. I believe they are open for dinner only 4:00?? Spoke to the owner a few weeks back, little old Italian lady, and her 2 sons. She stated that they have been there for over 25 years. Gotta be doing something right! Awsome Italian pizza!
|
Where is "Heat?"
Any old time pizza parlors throw a good pie? |
White Mountain Pizza
We really like White Mountain Pizza in New Hampton. We've had it several times and it has always been excellent. It's in the plaza across from the post office...very handy coming off the highway with "starving" children!

This summer I've fallen in love with the pizza at Tamarack-Out-Back (behind the Tamarack). I grew up on NY pizza and this is the closest I've found around here.

Another vote for Ellacoya B&G

love the pizza at Ellacoya Barn and Grille.great service and a nice place to eat.

Good Pizza
I have had pizza at both Tamarac Out Back and Heat and they are very good :liplick: I have not tried Louies Famous in Meredith on Route 104 but I heard it is excellent. Guiseppe's in Meredith is also very good.
|
My 2 cents: Good Pizza in the Lakes Region is an oxymoron. Have not had anything that is not simply edible.
|
Great Pizza
Try the "Whineing Butcher" in Meredith, their pizza is awesome!! A real treat!!:liplick:
|
The pizza at Fratello's is very good!!!

Although a little out of the way - Pizza Barn in West Ossipee is our favorite - never leave there hungry.

We love Louie's in Wolfeboro. Never been to the one in Meredith.

Glad to know what others enjoy --
ours........ GILFORD HOUSE OF PIZZA, next to the liquor store and movie theater. Heat up the leftovers on the grill for breakfast or snack.:liplick: |

...anything that's not pre-fab - Chuck E. Cheese, Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Cesars are the worst... Gimme a little family owned Village Pizza or [Insert Town Name Here] House Of Pizza any day.

More Pizza
The Mug is great too! http://www.themugrestaurant.com/
Heat is located across from The Fun Spot in case the person who asked earlier was wondering. We ate there once - it was good. We also Like Giuseppe's in Mill Falls in Meredith - http://millfalls.com/dining.htm |
Yah, but where can you get a thin crust, non-greasy pizza in the Laconia area?
|
Quote:
|
Don't go anywhere that don't use real pizza ovens - brick, coal fired are preferred - avoid those that use glorified toasters.
|
Quote:
The answer is simple - you cannot. There are plentry of greek style options (some of which are pretty good) - but if there is an option for a good thin crust that is lightly to moderately greasy that would be great. |
Surprised no one mentioned the Pine cone, in Melvin Village. I think their pizza is awesome. I also had a pizza special a while back at the North End in Moultonborough. I know they do not specialize in it but it was actually so good I thought about going back later that night and getting another one, just so it could sit in my fridge for a snack the next day.....Just another couple options.:D
|
Sal's
I really enjoy buying Sal's pizza at Market Basket and heating at home! It comes out fantastic when heated at home!!!

best Pizza

\ I second that :D |
The sourdough flatbread pizza at Tavern 27 is the best I've ever had. They have two for one pizza on Tues. Don't try to box one and take it home. They will charge you for the box :(

Pizza
For regular teen-age type pizza, The Laconia House of Pizza been a stand by for years.
For Gourmet pizza, you would have to travel to ManchVegas for '900 Degrees' creation. If heading for Logan airport, at the first exit after the tunnel, there is a pizza place with the best thin crust pizza. First time I ever like anchovies. I had great pizza at the 'Red Blazer' in Concord. Trouble is it was a special and they don't carry it on their menu. |
A new contender -- Wolfe City brick oven pizza. Wild selections including "dessert" pizza. All the traditional toppings as well. Daily pizza special(s), I think they also deliver (in Wolfeboro).
|
BH,the place your talking about by Logan is Santarpio's and the are fantastic. They now have a place on rt 1 in Saugus as well.
|
Another plug for Wine'ing Butcher Pizza
Marauder, a few posts up, was right about Wine'ing Butcher in Meredith. I tried a sausage pizza from there the other day, and the sausage was amazing. I'm going back just for that, and to see if they sell it in bulk. :liplick:
|
I noticed in Meredith, next to Cumberland Farms is also a Pizza Place. (I forget what it's called.) Has anyone ever tried it??

Taylor's in Meredith...
Quote:
They have that ubiquitous tip-jar on top of the register. THIS is the ONLY tip-jar on the planet that I contribute to!!! It's take-out food. This is one of my favorite finds. This is where locals go for their food...And it's very, very good. If you asked a local plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc. this is what they'd recommend. It's run by a local family and one of the son's plays in "One of the best bands in New Hampshire" according to an article on their wall. They also sell a cd of the band's music. You'll always be served by a member of the immediate family. In addition to subs (best around, IMHO), great pizza, they have stuff like veal parm., spaghetti & meatballs, etc. San Francisco is maybe 3,000% larger in population than Meredith, and I can't get an Italian sub here like Taylor's makes. Not much of a dine-in. More a take-out. I would be interested in other's opinion of this place. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Next time we plan to try the Mug. We regretted getting subs after seeing others get the pizza. It looked fantastic! |
Argie tried the pizza last night - sausage & pepperoni - and said it was very good. He thought the sauce was very good and said the toppings were plentiful... (he didn't bring any home... ahem... that won't happen again....:D)

Louie's was SOLD!
Louie's Pizza at Olde Province Common in Meredith was sold recently, and the new owner, Scott, planned to take over operations on January 1st!
I understand that there are no major plans to change the business, but the Nassis decided it was time to retire. Best of luck to them! |
Louis' Famous Pizza
oh no!! Louis' was my favorite when I'm at the lake. I hope the new owner doesn't change the Nasis' recipe.
Good luck to the Nasis'. I have never been in there and found them not to be there...they seemed to be really nice people. |
so sorry
So very sorry to hear this...have been talking this place up to people for years. Simply the best (no Lakes Region qualification needed..the best, end of story). I hope the new owner keeps things the same. Talk about toppings...you could never see the cheese. Covered. Normally, I am a three to four slice guy...but no way to eat more than two of their slices. And consistent...as their were no employees. It was just him and his wife. Same every time.
Ruins my day to find out. Every year, when we open camp second weekend in May, after a long day of "opening day work", I head down to Louis to grab a pizza. For 6 years, it has been our first meal of the season. I always look forward to seeing her smiling face, as I walked in, and the screen door clacked behind me. Oh well.... |
As soon as I heard this I went there to get a pizza yesterday to try it out. Too bad it was Monday and they were closed. I had to settle for Murphys pizza. It's not bad but it's no Louis, that's for sure! They do have a 2 pizza special during the winter though.....2, 1 topping pizzas for $14.99.
|
No Changes (I was told)
I actually ASKED about the recipe when Louie and Sue told me on Christmas Eve... the new owner plans no changes, so Louie must have sold the sauce too! He was also there, in the back kitchen, so I got the impression that he was Louie's understudy for a while.
I also asked about the decor. As anyone who has been in, there is a whole collection of Coca-Cola collectibles, bottle art, etc. Most aren't worth real money, but customers have brought them in from around the world to contribute. The collection will stay, as well. |

I'm not trying to be the forum police but when is it OK to advertise your establishment in this forum and when is not OK? Below is what it says in the Forum "FAQ" section: To post messages and pictures you must agree to the rules and policies detailed below. Winnipesaukee Forums • Your question or comment must be relevant to Lakes Region tourism, activities or topics. • Advertisements (including lost & found) of any kind are not allowed. • Do not post in ALL CAPS. Messages posted in all caps will either be converted to lower case or deleted. • Do not post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, slanderous, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, racist, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. • Do not reprint copyrighted articles without the owner's consent. • If you don't agree with something expressed on the Forum respond with your opinion, don't get personal! Your comments and opinions are welcome, personal attacks, insults or flames are not. • No "trolling" (trying to start arguments and upset people)! • No "flooding" (posting messages so numerous that they overwhelm a thread)! |
At the beginning I would have agreed with you Rusty and yes it can get annoying but with the way the economy is these days many of the small business owners are just trying to get by so putting a quick plug in about your business doesn't bother me. Baygo does seem to take advantage of every chance he gets to put a plug in about his business but as a small business owner myself it is hard not to do the same. Just my 2 cents:)

IMHO it sure is a good way to get free advertising. :) Can you imagine what this would do if all restaurant owners took advange of this freebie. Example: I start a thread called "Good steak in the Lakes Region" and then maybe around 100 lakes region restaurants post how good their steaks are and then post their website. Maybe the rule should be changed to "Advertisements (including lost & found) of any kind are not allowed (unless answering to a query)" |

Sorry to use you as an example but I was just wondering how to interpret the forum rules for advertising. |
Advertising
This happens constantly on the forum. The "forum favorites" get a "thank you for the information" while other restaurants that are not as loved by forum members, get reprimanded. There is a double standard here. I'm not going to name the favorites that get away with talking about there specials and whats going on at their establishments, but forum members constantly show favoritisim.

It's pretty simple, if you do a good job and please your customers you will end up with great reviews and positive comments. There is no conspiracy at work here. ;) |
advertising
So it's ok for an establishement to advertise and talk about what they are up to on the forum, as long as it is a place that you like? Ok, I get it now.

This below response from the webmaster is in the site support forum section and the thread name is “Soliciting threads”: “The "Errands" thread has been removed. When I spot or someone reports this kind of stand alone ad it is deleted. That kind of advertising is not allowed on the forum. However, it is perfectly OK for contractors or other service providers to reply to questions and offer their services. If someone is looking for a plumber I would expect plumbers to reply and say "I'm great, use me". Some self-promotion is expected in replies like that and I don't consider them advertisements. Connecting contractors and customers is an important function of the Home Improvement section. When a new member posts a question and a business replies I carefully check their IP and host information to make sure they are not the same person. That has happened a few times but is very rare. As a general rule, contractors and other service providers should not start threads but are welcome to reply.” |
Thanks Rusty, I knew it was out there somewhere but I had not tracked it down yet.

Best Pizza around the lake
Okay, most of the pizza around here is dreadful. I work in Meredith, am surrounded by pizza places and unimpressed. We think best pizza around is now at Wolf City Pizza in Wolfeboro, on Railroad Ave, near Ooh La La crepe restaurant (which is also terrific). Barbara, the owner of Wolf City, has a wood burning pizza oven imported from Italy. The pizza is completely fantastic, just like in Rome. Second best, in our opinion, is Flatbread & Company up in Conway and in Portsmouth-great, organic pizza. Third choice is The Pine Cone-try their spicy sausage, it's pretty good. But Wolf City, which just opened at end of January is really, really good. Call ahead, they will have pizza ready for you when you get there, then sit down and have some chianti ... yummo
|
So back on topic here:
I had my first Pizza taste experience with the "Pine Cone" on Saturday night. We were at some friends house last Saturday and they live in Suissevale. We were discussing where to get Pizza and they suggested the "Pine Cone" in Tuftonboro. For those of you that do not know where it is, it is just beyond Melvin Village. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. It was good Pizza! We did take out and I went along for the ride to go pick it up and I can say that the atmosphere of the Pine Cone looked pretty nice. I will be trying this place for dinner some time. So if you are on that side of the lake Route 109 area give them a try for Pizza, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. FYI - The Pizza's themselves were larger than large. |
Wolf City Pizza Anyone??

Wolfe City Pizza
Went to Wolfe City about 2 weeks ago, very surprised as I have never had good pizza any where in or around Wolfeboro. Pizza was good more self serve style but a very nice place. It is pricy but if you want good pizza it's worth it! Would I go again yes , yes , yes !
|
Bring back our Pizza !!
With no disrespect to the new owners of Louis Nasis Famous Pizza, I must say it's not the same. My family and I have had pizza twice since the new owners and have found it to be a little off. The jury is still out on the flavor of the sauce , but the cheese is more noticeable with less and it's mixture of cheeses which gave it the Loui flavor.
In a different thread we rated Loui's pizza the best around before it sold, we would like to be able to say the same with the new ownership. We wish them luck and we'll be back soon...:liplick: |
Here's another vote for the pies at the Pine Cone Cafe in Melvin Village. You wouldn't think pizza would be their specialty, but I've REALLY enjoyed it from there a number of times.
|
I tried Louis Pizza for the first time last weekend since the new owners took over. I am still a huge fan of their pizza. Is it exact...pretty darn close to it!

Not many people think of North Country Deli when it comes to pizza. They make awesome pies, nice thin crust with a sauce that's not too sweet. They are just north of Laconia downtown on the way to Parade Road.
|
North Country Deli
I second the vote for North Country Deli's Pizza. For those of you who loved the pizza we used to make, theirs is as close a match as we have found. It's very similar, but rolled in flour, as opposed to cornmeal. Give 'em a try. ;)

Never thought of them even though I go right by there several times a week.....will definately give them a try......if Pepper likes them they must be good !

I'll add my 2c and vote for the Tuftonboro General Store. In back of the store, Mike makes the best pizza on our side of the lake. Not greasy, not overdone, not too thin or thick. Very much worth a try.

In Laconia...
North country deli!!
|
Parker House Restaurant (inside Gunstock Inn)
Been there a couple times since they openned in Feb, Just getting their feet wet but they definetely on the right track with their pizza. Dough made fresh everyday and all fresh ingredients makes a tasty 18" pie. Has my vote.

$3.98 Wal-Mart Best Value brand frozen pizza..... 4-cheese rising crust.......no 9% meals tax...truly the best pizza ever made in the world's history of all prepared food, forever........amen!

Tuftonboro General Store Pizza Very Good!
Quote:
As one of the toppings, I recommend the onions. They're piled on but are sweet (vidalia?) onions and not overpowering at all. My preference is the onions and sausage as toppings. The better half likes it w/o toppings so we get it only on half. So I tried a plain slice once and as I recall, the sauce seemed to have a little "richness" (as in a tomato paste). Just a little side note/observation. And it has no resemblance to Greek style pizza which to me is sour tasting and greasier. Anyone that reads this post and tries the Tuftonboro General Store pizza, please add to this thread. I am one who loves a good pizza and enjoy sharing comments about it. I strongly urge any pizza lover to give it a try. Its just a real good (non-thin crust) pizza! |
Pizza by Paras
That shop is long out of business and was one of the first if not the first pizza shop in Laconia. It has been missed by me and others for a long time.
If you want a pizza that is very close to the old Paras style give Southend Pizza and Seafood a try on South Main St in Laconia. I suggest the small size for the Paras replica. Oh, and the seafood is also great. |
Meredith Village Pizza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Laconia Pizza joints.
I loved 'Pizza by Paras'. I never tried Southend Pizza, i do use 'Laconia House of Pizza' when my grandkids are here. They deliver.
The convenience store next to LASC has great pizza. The selection is limited and so are the hours. They served Jordan's ice cream! So far, the 'Pine Cone' and 'Bayside Grill' have the best pizza in the general area. Guiseppe's is a close second. |
