Wolfetrap Restaurant

Could anyone tell me how the Wolfetrap Restaurant has been doing since it has new owners. I hope Jim & Ally are still working the bar. We always went there when Barbara owned it. Is the food still the same? We would appreciate any feed back.
Thanks

What's Happened to the Trap?

Not what it was (IMO, YMMV).

Had wonderful takeout lobster dinner from Wolfe Catch last night (they deliver, too). There are a number of seafood dinners available in addition to lobster.

Barbara has a noncompete agreement with the Trap for 3 years, so - no tables.

Check it out.

I've been to the Wolftrap many times over the years, but today was the first time under the new management that took over last year. We had lunch outdoors. My husband had the fish and chips which he said was wonderful, perfectly cooked. I had the fish tacos....BEST I ever had!!! Looking forward to going again soon.

the Wolfetrap is a fish market that sells stuff to go. No tables.

We at lunch there (at the restaurant), last Thursday. At 2pm, there were only 1-2 customers which seemed a little odd. We ended up with onion rings, a burger, a chicken sandwich and a lobster roll. All were very good and the beer was cold The outside tables are nice.

The location seems challenging at best. It's a good walk off downtown. They do have a few boat slips, but you have to be able to make it under the bridge to get there which I suspect most boats can't do.

Does the above quote above yours mean you stood and had a good meal or were you able to sit on a railing or something?????:)

Review of the Wolfetrap in the Union Leader

There was a restaurant review in the 7/6/11 issue of the Union Leader --

wolfetrap and wolfe catch

There are 2 businesses in the same complex. Wolfe trap is the restaurant, used to be owned by Barbara. Wolfe catch is the fish market, still owned by Barbara. Stopped by the catch last week and got some yummy tuna steaks to throw on the grill and still-warm freshly baked cornbread. I think this is the best fish I have had at the lake. The woman at the counter said if you call, she can do just about anything, marinading fish, cooking it for take out and she said she can do special orders if you have a big crew or are looking for something special. She did also say that for some reason, the state of nh will not allow her to sell striped bass, which we have had back in CT this summer and is very tasty too, what's up with that?

Thumbs up for The Wolftrap

The Wolftrap does have tables. My wife and I with another couple just had a great dinner there last weekend. I'm assuming people are meaning The Wolfcatch doesn't have tables.....just take out. The Wolftrap has a great waterside atmosphere. I only wish my boat would fit under the bridge as it would make a nicer experience. We'll definitely be going back!

(Almost) Season End for Wolfetrap

We have eaten at the Wolfetrap several times a year over the last decade, and we've seen phases of good food and sometimes mediocre touristy food. In our opinion, when Barbara was active in the kitchen the food was very good; seasons where hired help were active in the kitchen the food was not very good. We have been several times under the new ownership, and it has gotten better than ever. Particularly this summer they have seemed to hit their stride and the food is consistently very good, with excellent new entrees (eg: Fish Tacos have been a hit, including with all of our friends). Service is better with friendly attentive wait and bar staff. We ate there last night, as this is their final weekend of this season. My wife had an outstanding Lobster BLT, and I had a 1.5 lb lobster dinner. As this is their last weekend, we were pleasantly surprised to see lobster dinners were half-price (if anyone is inclined to visit them tonight or tomorrow). We are glad to see the Wolfetrap settling in as a new local option as one of a few consistently good places to eat.

Wolfetrap Update

I ate lunch at the Wolfetrap last week with a few friends and it was outstanding! We sat at the outside tables and the atmosphere was very nice and the seafood was top notch. The shrimp were huge and the lobster rolls were stuffed with meat. Service was prompt and courteous. Everyone I brought raved about the experience. Thank you Wolfetrap.....I'll be back.

We've been there a number five or six times this summer, both for lunch and dinner. In fact, I'm having lunch there with a friend today. Love the fish tacos and they have a wonderful white sangria. service is always great!

Wolfe Catch

Stopped by to see Barbara Friday to pick up some swordfish and scallops....both to throw on the grill...they were some of the best and freshest we've had lately. The swordfish must have been caught on the lake earlier Friday morning! Pizza is also coming to Barbara's "Catch".:liplick:

so does this mean that the wolfetrap will be closed for the rest of the season?
i really like fish tacos so i would love to try them up there....
it looks like it may be rainy this labor day so i was planning on eating dinner at restaurants this long weekend instead of trying to grill under the porch..

Newbiesaukee 08-27-2012 09:50 PM

That post was from October,2011.

I think they close seasonally after Columbus Day.

Closed?

I am assuming yes, but can someone verify if The Wolfetrap is now closed for the season? No indication on their website. We'd like to go this weekend if they are still open.

upthesaukee 10-23-2015 09:31 AM

From their Facebook page...
