New Hannafords in Guilford

Noticed today that they started clearing the land for the new Hannaford's next to Lowe's. Shaw's must be shaking in it's boots. On a side note Shaw's has discontinued their gasoline discount with Irving. Strange time to stop that program with the gasoline prices climbing......

That would make it a move from the Walmart location.

Hannaford's

Has anyone else noticed that a number of items which Hannaford's in Gilford once carried are no longer available there? I'm not speaking of specialty items but ones which are readily available at Shaw's and other supermarkets. It happened again yesterday that another item I use on a regular basis has disappeared from their shelves since I last purchased it - now you see it, now you don't! If I have to make a special trip to Shaw's, I end up doing the rest of my shopping there, as well. Not very conducive to keeping customers happy and coming back in my opinion. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience recently? Hope when the new store opens they will resume stocking these items. Does anyone know if the store will be larger than the present one?

Perhaps not a popular item

The item you are looking for is perhaps not a popular item. In the retail environment, if it gathers dust on a shelf, it can be time to move the item out of inventory to make room for other items. Or, it could have been moved to another area in the store.

Did you ask anyone about it?

I used to deliver corn to both of these stores and both do a very different amounts of business. and when I say different I mean a difference of 20+ bags of corn a week. they may just aim for different demographics.

The new Hannaford's is actually going to be smaller. Supposedly the same size retail space but less warehouse space. That doesn't sound like they will keep a lot of stuff in the stock room.

Why are they building a new, smaller store?

Why is Hannaford building a new SMALLER store? It is gonna kill that shopping plaza where Walmart is located... which is too bad, because Home Goods and the oriental restaurant are good! I shopped at Shaw's last week and got the gasoline discount - when did it stop?? Anyway, I find that Shaw's is often cheaper than Hannaford, certainly the Hannaford in Meredith is expensive. I want a Market Basket!!

Happens all the time. Could be a number of things. The buyer for that product could have an issue with the manufacturer and giving an "I'll show you job" or they could not reach a specified price for the product. Or, it could be out of stock at Hannaford's warehouse and not at a different companies.

If you ask a manager in that department, they can give an answer on the status and whether you will see it again.

As I understand what I read in the news many months ago and as Lakesrider already mentioned. The new store is only going to be smaller in the storage and wharehousing. The retail floor space or the part that we customers see is supposed to be the same size.

X2 on a Market Basket.

I shopped at Shaw's as well. It was simply easy for me as I go to Lowe's for stuff and then pull across the street to Shaw's. I noticed that the gas discount was gone when I put my card in the pump and it said discount applied and no discount showed. I walked into the store and the attendant told me you had until the end of Feb to use your accumulated discounts.
Thought it an odd time to stop a discount right when gas prices started climbing. So Now I go to fullers as they are the cheapest. I'll continue to go there as long as they are the cheapest. Used to go to Skelly's but now they aren't so low anymore.

In my opinion they are moving more because of location. You can't even see Hanaford now from the road.

Well, there was a rumor awhile back that Walmart wants a Super Walmart in this location. The current Walmart is housed in the old Rich's Department Store that was/is smaller than most other Walmarts.

Logistically, Walmart could absorb the structure to the north/left. But that still leaves the vacant grocery store.
