Hikes That Are Compatible With Strollers??
 

Last year when I was at Winni I went on well over a dozen hikes (Rattlesnake and Mount Major being my two favorites).

This year I will have a friend and her 3 year old visiting for a week or so and would love to take them on a hike with a great view. The problem is that the 3 year old is too big to carry and if we let her walk the entire hike, it may take a little bit longer than we'd like.

So, does anyone know of any good hikes that I could use one of those rugged, three wheel stroller thingys (sorry for being so scientific) you see mom's jogging with?

Or even a shorter hike that the three year old could handle (or my shoulders if she gets tired...lol).

PS - I don't think you are going to get a stroller up there but at only .7 of a mile the little rugrat can walk or be carried. don't forget to bring your lunch along and enjoy the stone chairs!

Have you tried the Squam Lakes Science Center with a stroller? Nice walk in the woods, and kids love it.

Although not really suitable for strollers, Belknap is pretty doable for a 3 year old. They have 3 trail choices, Blue, Red and Green. Red I believe is the most direct and hardest, blue is the longest and easiest. The fire tower is manned so that's a pretty cool attraction for kids once at the top.

When one of my grandkids was around that age we pushed her up Red Hill in one of those strollers. My son and I took turns pushing it. It's rugged in places, but we did it.

I was thinking that Mt Shaw, above Castle in the Clouds (off route 171), might be an easier one, as much of the trail up from near the Castle is basically an old horse path and maybe is used by 4-wheel vehicles these days. What I don't know is how bad the lower end of that trail is for a stroller. You probably could Google the trail system to find out.

Cotton Valley trail...
 

..is more of a walk than a hike but, at 6 miles one way, it travels from downtown Wolfeboro, passes by a lot of history, a few beaches with time to dip the toes in the water and lots of flowers now. Ran it this morning and passed more Lady Slippers than I have ever seen in one place.

Crushed stone/dirt and flat the whole way.

You could also hike up the Castle in the Clouds road or check out the Bearcamp River (Beede Falls) in Sandwich off of Sandwich Notch Road (You would be near the Sandwich Creamery afterwards as well!)

Cotton Valley Trail is perfect. I did that walk a ton last year with my Goldens. It'd be great for a 3 year old...especially "dipping the toes in the water" part!!!

We had a backpack that we could put the boys into for long walks or hikes like that - I loved it!

The one we had would hold a child up to 40 lbs.

We just bought one of those kid carrier backpacks (Deuter kid comfort II) so that I can take my 1 year old (24 lbs) on hikes when we're up at the lake. I love it. He loves it. We've done a couple 3-4 mile practice hikes and plan on doing bald knob and maybe a couple other places suggested in this thread.
