Weirs Fireworks

I really miss the Friday night fireworks at the weirs. I would routinely take guests there, stroll the boardwalk, take in some junk food and end the night with a nice fireworks display. It was the only thing that attracted me to the weirs.

Anyone know if if any Weirs fireworks are planned during the remainder of the summer?

Tonight's fireworks were really great. Started slow and slowly built over a full 20 minutes- twice as long as the shows in previous years.

Reading the Citizen earlier this year, I was saddened to hear the new setback requirements might mean they'd be limited to boring low-level blah fireworks. Thankfully it's not the case.

Remember back in the 60's

When I was much younger in the late 60's Weirs had fireworks every Sunday in the summer. I remember watching the Weirs fireworks by boat was a great date idea; I never got turned down :D.

One interesting thing they use to have at the end of the show was a last firework that launched a container held by a parachute holding like $5 or some amount. All the boats use to race in to retrieve the parachute. They ended it when too many boats got a little too aggressive and starting smashing into each other. No one got hurt so it was very funny.

I remember. They use to have an emcee on the roof of the building on the boardwalk and sometimes a barbershop quartet or a band concert. When it was time for the fireworks the emcee would say "Dominic are you ready" and Dominic would wave the flare that lit the fireworks. Too fun!!
