Have You Ever Seen This Boat Go By????

Yesterday I saw a boat out in front of our place. He was following a flag in the water. I asked the boat driver what was going on? He said the person with the flag was diving to check-out the milfoil situation. He said we were in good shape ( not much milfoil ). I was thinking---I hope so---because they just sprayed a few weeks ago. I have attached a couple of pictures.

I saw them coming out of Smith Cove a couple months ago. I was wondering what was going on as it's a funny looking dive operation!

Back mid July they where at the rocky area that you have to go through to get to Lees Mills ramp. They were doing some pumping. I was wondering what was going on, looked interesting but I was afraid to get near them with a diver down. Water could not have been that deep.

Alton Bay 9-24

Went out on the boat today, and they were working by the town beach and Harmony Park on the east side of the bay.

DASH Unit

That's looks like a DASH unit. A Diver Assisted Suction Harvester. Tuftenboro, Moultonborough and Wolfeboro contract out milfoil harvesting using that kind of device. In Moultonborough's case, citizens voted $200K to help fund it. Volunteer weed watchers identify milfoil, and the town's volunteer milfoil committee schedules the harvesting. It has been going on all summer and amazing piles of decaying weeds are at the dump. It is an alternative to chemical treatment, when the infestation is not so bad.

I think there are more than one on the lake. The one I see around Smith Cove has a different color sign. Most of the waterfront land owners around the area pitch in for the cost of keeping the cove under control.

Maybe more than one.

Cuz they were in Alton Bay all afternoon working the same location.
