Architects/Designers in the area?

I am looking for an architect in the region to design a home for us. Something with that shingle-style adirondack lake look/feel. Does anyone have a recommendation?

I have seen the webiste for Reindeer Designs, but not much beyond that. Any experiences?

Check out Flanders & Co in Meredith.

http://www.flandersandco.com/

They have built three houses for me (ranging from a $150k budget to a $1mil budget) and I have been very happy with all of them. The owner Mark Flanders is also a home designer and has desgined all of the houses. Although I have worked with architects in the past I found it was a lot easier for me to work directly with the builder/designer. Nothing against architects - they design beautiful homes - but I find that when the designer knows what it takes to build the house they can be better about sticking to a budget. Not to be too simplistic but if roof rafters come in standard sizes of 22 and 24 feet you don't design a room to be 23 feet wide and custom order the rafters.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you want. 3 houses built in the area in 6 years means I have made every possible mistake you can me!!

Chris Williams Architects in Meredith

We had Chris Williams design our place on Rattlesnake. Great design team, and Liz Venus was a pleasure to work with on the construction side.

They are on my list to call. I want to sit down with someone for an initial consult to discuss design needs/general look.

Things to consider

If you are water front property - there are all kinds of things to consider with the new NH laws. Give us a call - Chris usually meets folks at their site initially to get a sense of the land, and what the client wants to do.

Hard to argue with Chris's work. He builds spectacularly beautiful homes and in my humble opinion is the best architect in the area. That said I would still argue that it is worth talking to at least one or two designer/builders. The home's might not be quite the works of art that are a Chris Williams home but the final cost reflects it!!

Wood and Clay, Twin Oaks, and Rich Benton do a lot of adirondacks.

Organix Design

We used Organix Design in Melvin Village to design our "renovation" on Whortleberry Island. We couldn't have been happier with Robert or with our builder Jonathan Tolman.

Steve designed my house, did a great job. He's a designer, not an architect.

Depending on your plans you may need both.

Jason at JL's Lakes Region Carpentry based in Northfield is a great carpenter. He's done some wonderful home building. I'm not sure who the architect/designer that he works with is, but I think it would be worth giving him a call to find out!
