bass fishing
The bass are up on the rocks spawning. I was up 2 weeks ago during a warm spell - they are up, in and active. Fish the edges of the rock piles for pre and post spawn fish and leave the bedding fish - to the beds. Remember - catch and release only.

Amen ...
Stay off the beds. Flipping a lizard or a gitzit onto a bed and ripping the guardian buck bass into your boat is not my idea of fun and I love to fish as much as anyone. Been coming to Winni for the past 20 years from Pennsylvania and feel it is incumbent upon all fisherman to preserve the resourse. Rant over ... good day gents.

What's the best way to catch ...
... bass if you don't want to fish the nests? Where will the non-spawning fish be?
|
ditto above...leave those fish alone for all sake.

Too bad not all those out there follow this advice.
I won't even call them fishermen because that is a disservice to the majority who respect the sport and the fish. There is a bass nest just to the left of our dock. Over the weekend, I watched as this poor (dumb? ;-) ) bass was caught no less than 3 times, perhaps more as we were not around all weekend. In every case, with calm, clear water, those catching him came in, saw the fish on the nest, then cast toward it. How can this be fun or challenging? As the saying goes, seems like shooting fish in a barrel. I wish I understood why this isn't against the rules. |
I see this a lot at Pier 19. There are many spawning fish in by the docks, and there are always bass boats in the dock area casting.
Not only are they trying to catch the bass, they get annoyed when you ask them to move so you can get in and out of your dock! |

They are not fisherman. They are just guys trying to fish. To many looking to catch a trophy fish. Time to cut back on the number of fishing derbys in the lake.
