canoe navigation lights?
A 17' aluminum canoe out after sunset and propelled by paddles or oars is required to have just a single white lantern or light.
How's about a canoe that has an electric trolling motor? Will just the white light meet the legal requirement or does it need to have the red/green and white standard navigation lights? What's the law? |

FLL...
The law is VERY clear on this.... if its paddled, poled or rowed you only need a single white light with 360 degree visibility for 2 miles... you putt around with an electric motor (the law makes NO distinction about motor types) you need red/green sidelights. Just because its an electric motor you do not get an exemption... an easy interpretation... http://boat-ed.com/nh/handbook/lights.htm Woodsy PS: If I had encountered those kayakers @ night I would have called the NHMP... they were a danger to themselves and others! |
