Paugus Bay late July
I'll be fishing in Paugus Bay from shore or maybe a rowboat at the end of the month. Does anyone have any good suggestions for bait/lures and what depth? Are there any good all around lures that might attract salmon, trout and bass? Any advice is appreciated.

Shiners
Heck if your in a rowboat why not pick up some shiners at the local bait store and put your line down around 30' or so and float around. Something will hit it!
Good luck!! Dan |
I would agree. If you have a row boat and the wind is minimal, you can go wrong with live bait. Try 20' and less for bass and 25'+ for salmon, rainbows and lakers. I'm an avid bass and salmon fisherman. When I'm out by myself I use lures and try new places, but if I have a boat full of kids, I have them all drop worms near points that drop off into deep water. The kids catch everything. Sun fish, yellow perch, white perch, bass. They have a blast and occasionally someone hooks a big one!

Lures
If from shore is there 1 lure that might attract all 3 fish I am shooting for?
Thank you |

As far as best time to fish, in my opinion early morning (sunrise or earlier) would be best simply because of no boat traffic or other things driving fish from the shallows. I don't think you are going to catch a salmon or lake trout that close to shore in that shallow water this time of year but you may pick up a rainbow, bass, white perch, yellow perch, etc, etc. My advice is just have fun with it and see what happens! Good Luck!! Dan |
Crank baits, jerk baits, or Texas rigged plastics will catch LM Bass, SM Bass, Pickerel, and Crappies.

Paugus Bay Smallies
I caught some monster small mouth in Paugus using Hellgrammites. Fish about 100 yrds or so off the islands, in about 25-30 feet of water.
Just hook em through the neck and let them swim freely. These have worked when no lure would! |
how do you get the shiners down to 25-30 feet?
