Hallelujia!

Sorry for shouting, but

HALLELUJIA!

Cloudy with snow. Low near 5F. Winds NE at 10 to 20 mph. Snow accumulating 6 to 10 inches. :D

So, the lake now has ice cover, we'll get snow cover tonight, and FINALLY everybody can go outside and PLAY! Oh, happy day - the snow is coming the snow is coming the snow is coming! :D

No, I'm not excited - I'm euphoric! :D

Lobster Roll

Then all those snowmobilers can just ride right up and get a yummy hot buttered lobster roll!

Could you email me one please. I will need it when I hunker down and wait out the storm.

That aint nutin

Down here we have BLIZZARD WARNINGS and SNOW 12+Inches...To bad I have to work this weekend.

This should shut down New Jersey for a bit...

Frdxplorer 01-22-2005 11:57 AM

The snow was falling in south central pennsylvania at 8 this AM. We are expecting between 6-12 (hoping for 14). Enjoy it up there when it arrives. I am off to pull lousy PA drivers out of the snow with the truck. It is so pathetic down here. We hear about 3 inches and people get all worked up and run out to the store to stock up on bread, milk and toiler paper like they will be stranded for weeks.

gtxrider 01-22-2005 12:01 PM

Snowed In

People here are same way you think we are going to be snowed in until March. We are not the Donner party here. :liplick:

gtxrider 01-22-2005 12:11 PM

And so it starts

Here in Central Jersey (cross roads of 78, 287, 202 and 206) it has started to SNOW...YEE HA! It is veerrryyyy cold. :)

Lady Di 01-22-2005 12:50 PM

:)

Enjoy yourselves, but play sensibly.

mcdude 01-22-2005 01:50 PM

Two feet predicted here in the south of Boston to Cape Cod area with 35 mph winds and lots of drifting snow. You should have seen the supermarket this a.m....it was crazy! No carts were available so I ended up with one of those HUGE kiddie carts (with the space in front with two steering wheels for two little kids to sit) The place was so crowded I was banging into everyone with the thing. What a riot. I wish I had a picture!
:patriot: GO PATS!!!

Report from Northern NJ

Just got the snowblower ready to go. It started on the 3rd try after summer storage. We're expecting 12 - 18 inches thru Sunday morning in the North Jersey/NYC area. Pepper, do you think you could email another hot lobster roll along with IG's? Hope it doesn't get cold before it gets thru the 300 mi. trip from the Weirs. Maybe I can get the real thing when we come up in Feb. Only 4 weeks from today!!

ghfromaltonbay 01-22-2005 02:32 PM

Yikes!!

Just looked out the window and saw that we already have more than an inch of snow and it only started about an hour ago here in Clifton.

GTXRider -- must be a slow day at work.

Cal 01-22-2005 02:39 PM

Gail,
Started 10 am here and now the grass is gone and the curbs are just about to go too. Cal

The most recent alert I received....
"A DANGEROUS WINTER STORM WITH HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL AFFECT
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY. ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY
DISCOURAGED TONIGHT. IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING
INDOORS TONIGHT...YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK.

"
I guess I should just stay put tonight! Keep safe out there.

Double YIKES

The lastest forecast has just increased the total accumulation here in Northern NJ to 18 to 24 inches by the time it stops Sunday afternoon. We also are getting warnings to stay indoors and off the roads. Route 46 is about 2 blocks from my house, and right now I can barely see the cars that are crawling along. We have about 2 inches of snow so far, but at least it's not windy. They are also forecasting high winds with possible power outages overnight.

Thanks for the lobstah + cheese, Upthesaukee. I wish I had a fireplace to go with it. Just keep the snow around for our visit in Feb. I hope we'll be able to get to our cottage without needing a plow.

upthesaukee 01-22-2005 05:09 PM

Double Yikes in Alton as well

Here's the latest from the NWS from weather.com:

A HEAVY SNOW WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST. SNOWFALL INTENSITIES WILL BE HEAVY ENOUGH TO SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES AT TIMES....

So much for a nice leisurely snowfall and maybe a little walk on the snowshoes before it gets too windy.

DRH 01-22-2005 06:46 PM

We're Going to Get It!

Yep, upthesaukee, it looks like we're really going to get it tonight and tomorrow. It's snowing here now at 5:45 PM, and it's supposed to significantly intensify as the evening progresses.

Hey Pepper, please add us to your email "lobster roll distribution list"! (Peg will take a sausage parmesan sub!)

Lot's of sparkly snow

So far we have 7" of light fluffy snow in Central MA near Rt. 495. Plows just went by.

Rinkerfam 01-22-2005 10:16 PM

I think that GWC's Weather Channel map actually shows my street in Nashua NH. We are looking at 12-20" by the time this all winds down. Although winter is not my favorite season, I'm glad to finally be getting a real snowfall. All the 1-3" snowfalls that we have received thus fare have been no more than a tease! If the temps ever moderate I will get out on the slopes.
Looking forward to seeing everyones final tallys tomoorow :D

Blizzard?

It's about 9am here in norther Jersey. We've got about a foot and that looks like that might be it. My parents in southeastern Massachusetts tell me, however, that they have a couple of drifts up to the 2nd story windows.

My boys are hoping that the wind keeps up so that school will get cancelled tomorrow. Now that's MY nightmare! Even if the roads are clear, we always have trouble getting the van/car up the driveway. Never have trouble on the roads, just the !@#$%&* driveway! If I were on my laptop (where all the photos go), I would attach a picture from last night. Maybe later.

Stay warm, all!

Jersey Girl

Get out your snuggies!

It is still snowing here going on 24Hrs. The roads are bad and driving in to work this morning visibilty was terrible.

Can anyone explain why some, not all, SUV drivers think that they can still do the speed limit on snow covered roads? I think they believe the commercials the manufactures produce.

Now they say it will get colder tonight with single digit lows.

It looks to be heading up the East Coast so stay warm and safe! :patriot: GO PATS!

You said it, GTX. They give all uf us a bad name. It is just my hope that if they get loose and lose it, they end up in a bank somewhere and not in my front grill.

Snow report..Boston-North

It is still snowing and blowing here at 10 am.
I would like to tell you I looked out the window...but thats not possible in most rooms snow is plastered from the wind. Some areas are almost bare from the snow blowing and some drifts are almost 4 feet in the driveway.
Lucky there is no place to go in a hurry today!!!
Time to sit back and drink the coffee :liplick:
Stay safe and warm everyone!

Rattlesnake Gal 01-23-2005 12:08 PM

So far in Hollis we have 16"-18", though it is hard to tell with the wind blowing it around.
It's really tough on Mac, he is only 14” tall at the top of his head!
On channel 9 this morning they showed the bob houses on the bay. Thought that was great. I am so missing the lake. :emb:
Thank goodness for the forum!

upthesaukee 01-23-2005 12:10 PM

Alton Bay snow

At my house, just above Keewaydin Park (about 1/2 lmile off lake), with many readings all over my yard and driveway, I averaged only 7-9 inches of depth. that was in open areas and protected areas both. At 11 AM, snow had stopped, I am plowed out and shovelled out, and will have to go out in a little while...Go Pats!!!!!

ghfromaltonbay 01-23-2005 12:40 PM

Report from Northern NJ

At 11:30 the sun has been out for a few hours and the snow has stopped. I had about 12 inches of snow here at 9 p.m. and went out and used the snowblower to clear the sidewalks and driveway. Now there is at least another 6 inches of snow on the ground + some drifting. Glad I went out last night to do the first foot. The snow is very powdery and although it was cold last night, the winds didn't kick up until after 11 p.m. I think it will feel colder out there when I clean up the rest. Thank goodness it happened on the weekend. The city of Clifton is terrible at cleaning the roads. Although there was a foot of snow on the ground by evening, I didn't see a plow come thru my street until after 9 p.m. and then they only did one sweep down the center of the street despite no cars parked on our block (this is their typical MO). They could take lessons from the road crews in N.H. So much for our tax dollars at work.

Rattlesnake Gal 01-23-2005 12:43 PM

My kids are complaining that it is a perfectly good waste of a snowstorm. They like those days off from school. I’d rather have the extra time at the lake in June!

Mr Port Jefferson 01-23-2005 02:43 PM

We got more than 2 feet here on the North Shore of Long Island. Snow blowers are going crazy all over the town! I went out 3 times last night, but the wind did a number on all the clearing so much so that it did not look like I did anything at all! It has stopped here now, but I am waiting for the plows to come through - by Monday it will be all clear for everyone to go to school and work. Hope everyone is warm and safe! REMEMBER less than 5 months to summer!

DRH 01-23-2005 02:52 PM

Same Here in West Alton

That sounds like a good estimate, upthesaukee. We got about the same here on the west side of town.

Still Snowing!

2 Attachment(s)
It's 2:20 p.m. Sunday here south of Boston and it is STILL snowing and blowing to beat the band. School is already called off for tomorrow. We'll be making up snow days until July at this rate. I may never get to the lake this summer!

upthesaukee 01-23-2005 03:38 PM

McDude--Stay warm and safe...reminisent of the Blizzard of 78, which I went through in Reading Ma. Had to lay down on the floor and brace my feet against a wall to push the door open enough to get out and shovel. Six hours to shovel a driveway that was about 2 1/2 cars long and one car wide. I don't envy you folks in southern NE , NY, & NJ.

Hope to see you in a few weeks.

DRH 01-23-2005 03:40 PM

After The Storm

Here's what it looks like at the lake this afternoon, McD. Yes, those are snowmobile tracks between Minge Cove and the islands! Once the snow stopped late this morning it didn't take long before the sleds were out.

http://www.metrocast.net/%7Edhughes/...ake_012305.jpg

Steve 01-23-2005 04:13 PM

About 20" fell here in Southern NH. I remember the blizzard of 78. We had to go out of a window to get outside, so we could shovel. This wasn't that bad, but sure did bring back some memories.

I recall a storm last year though, that dumped a bit more. I want to say close to 30" or something, and it wasn't as fluffy as this storm.

Boy of boy, did the boat look lonely under all of that snow!

I, too, rode out '78 in Reading. My parents are still there.

We got 18" in Townsend, MA from this storm.

Island Girl 01-23-2005 06:16 PM

Took the sled out today

It is hard to tell how much we got here in central MA with all of the drifts. I would say 18" maybe more.

I took the sled out and it started after three pulls. My daughter and I rode around the yard a bit and got stuck a few times. If you saw my yard you would know how silly we looked. Dodging trees was interesting.

We are now all plowed, snow blowed and exhausted. Sled is ready for the lake... Woo hoo!

phoenix 01-23-2005 08:37 PM

Pepper I am going to be in Boston later this week and will come up to the lake on Friday I assume you are open and will have at least two lobster rolls

fatlazyless 01-23-2005 09:14 PM

sno-mo on Beacon Hill

Today, someone had a two-stoke Ski-Doo out, going down Charles St, at the bottom of Beacon Hill in Boston with two riders. That's a first. Never seen a Ski-Doo on Charles St, even in the big storm of'78. Here in Waterille Valley, we got a slim three inches of new snow and there's still not enough for cross coumtry skiing.

Pepper 01-23-2005 09:40 PM

E-mail shipments

Ok, Gail, Don, Peg and Carolyn, your Lobster Rolls and Sausage Parms are on the way! Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I've been busy cooking and shoveling, and hadn't checked the forum since yesterday morning!

We received about 10 inches or so at the Weirs, but the GREAT news is it was light and fluffy, and I didn't have to clean off the airplane!!! YeeeeHaaaa!

Stay warm and safe and dry, everybody - and get those snowmobiles out - the conditions are
P E R F E C T ! ! ! ! ! ! :D

Rattlesnake Gal 01-23-2005 10:25 PM

While your sending them out, I really could use one too!

Jeepers! That's kinda personal, ain't it?

Ahem,

The pipes have all been fixed, and life is GREAT!
Thanks for askin!

P.S. check your email.

tricia1218 01-24-2005 08:57 PM

Not sure exactly how much we got here in northern MA, I think they said over 18 inches. I was young during the Blizzard of '78, this didn't seem to compare at all. I think the weatherpeople are a little dramatic. We were shoveled out and out on the snowmobile by 1 pm on Sunday. Thanks to all the plow guys they did a great job!!!!

Pepper 01-25-2005 11:33 AM
