Future Darwin Award Winner?
I was heading out of the channel next to the Weirs today and saw a ski boat heading into the channel. There were two guys in the water hanging onto the back of the swim platform as the boat headed through the channel. I guess that there are multiple ways these Mensa candidates could find themselves taken out of the gene pool. :D

Not a lot of margin for error..

Wow. That's new.

Propeller + carbon monoxide. What could go wrong? :rolleye1:

Yup, that qualifies as a new "stupid boat trick", if not a Darwin Award prospect. Trouble is to actually receive a DA, you have to succeed in leaving the gene pool - surviving doesn't cut it.
Jetskier - I understand your sarcasm, but I must object to stereotyping us Mensans. |
It was a new fad a few years back and quickly discredited. Surprisingly carbon monoxide was the biggest danger. I would have bet on the propeller.
Look up teak surfing. I guess a reference to teak swim platforms. |

For Immediate Release...?
Due to carbon monoxide poisoning, it's definitely a safety issue.

more laws?
Do we really need a law for everything that can kill you? I would think the penalty of death would be enough deterrent. But not for CA I guess.
|
Inboard?
Not that I'm defending these knuckleheads but if its a ski boat wouldn't mean its an inboard, which would probably negate the prop concerns? I only bring this up because had the same thoughts when I see someone wake surfing. They are so close to the platform you would think they also would be in danger of coming in contact with the prop but with an inboard I guess that's not the case.
|
Potentially not
If the ski boat stops suddenly, then there is a risk that legs can go under the swim platform and get hit by the prop. Clearly, if the boat goes into reverse, that is the case.
