House Hunters on HGTV

I just happened to turn the channel and caught the beginning of an episode with a family looking at homes on Winnipesaukee. Rather cool!

NHKathy 09-05-2012 09:09 PM

Cool! I'm watching it! Thanks for sharing!

Red apple 09-05-2012 09:33 PM

Great show. Looks like the house that was purchased is to the left of Shep Browns.

Jeanzb1 09-06-2012 06:36 AM

Really? How cool is that? Was this a re-run, do you know?

According to my cable guide, it was a new airing. Last night, I looked ahead to see when they will replay it so i can see it in its entirety and it played again overnight; but unfortunately I don't see it airing again now...

barefootbay 09-06-2012 08:47 AM

Loved the multiple references to the" upscale town of Alton''.

Hermit Cover 09-06-2012 10:30 AM

Upscale...Alton and all...

If you are lucky enough to be on Lake Winni....all the towns are UP scale!:)

CateP 09-06-2012 10:33 AM

I used to watch House Hunters all the time...until I bought my house in Wolfeboro this year. After doing all my OWN house hunting I just didn't feel like watching others hunt anymore. (BUT I learned a lot from watching the show)

That said, I did look into going on the show during my search and found out you get about $500 to let them film and you have to be very close to a closing date on a house. I think they show people looking at other houses just so it seems like they are making a choice.

If anyone has a link to the episode that would be cool to see.

I have heard that you basically have to be under contract already on the house you decide on, as Cate mentioned you need to be basically ready to close on it. Its already a done deal and they film backwards in time.

Regarding the one in Alton, it was listed by Blue Water, switched to Nicole Watkins for a very short period, then back to Blue Water. Probably had something to do with this.

meredith weekender 09-06-2012 04:36 PM

Unfortunately the whole story about the other houses is false :(. The buyers had never even looked at the Alton house or the Tuftonborough house until after they had closed on the Meredith house. All filming is done about 3 to 4 weeks after you own the house.

Will Someone Let Me Know If/When It Airs Again??

I'd love to see it!!

Thank you!!

Island Cottage

My wife and I have always thought it would be a great episode if they did a show with a couple purchasing an island cottage, perhaps in the $350-400K range. They are all so unique and have such history!

If you have a cable box, you should be able to do on-demand to watch the show, that's what we did down here in Mass. this morning.

GTO 09-07-2012 08:28 AM

saw it too

They showed the couple eating at the Town Docks making their final decision. And it was funny too....Alton, Upscale......good sense of humor

Gatto Nero 09-07-2012 10:19 AM

We rented a house in Belize that was part of the House Hunters International show. It turned out that it was all a marketing ploy to that was sponsored by the developer of the property. Total BS.

Real Estate Agent

Can I assume that the real estate agent selling these houses is not real either.

Here is the short version of the episode found on HGTV site. Don't know when the complete episode will re-air though.

Thanks for posting. Are they are Shibley's? I didn't know you could take dogs there, does anyone, or was this for tv?

Look's like the Town Dock's in Meredith.

upthesaukee 09-09-2012 09:44 AM

it was the town dock restaurant

I watched the episode and they docked at the dock at the town dock's restaurant. I have a sound in my head going dock dock dock....

jerseyonbear 09-09-2012 07:54 PM

real agent

One of our local real estate agents here in NJ was on one of the shows. It is real with a real agent but with some extras added. They keep replaying the same shows over so hope I can see the Lake one some day soon

Merrymeeting 09-09-2012 07:56 PM

Proving once again...different strokes for different folks. The lush, green, lawn would be a major turn-off for me. Not looking for suburbia on the shores of the lake.

MAXUM 09-09-2012 11:20 PM

I hope those folks understand that nice green lawn is what is killing the water quality and feeding the milfoil problem!

Looking at that place just makes me appreciate so much more my nice little cozy island cabin built in the 40's!

Is there are restaurant there named town dock's restaurant or do you mean it was Shibley's? Sorry, I couldn't understand.

SIKSUKR 09-10-2012 06:40 AM

The Town Docks Restaraunt in Meredith.

upthesaukee 09-10-2012 06:57 AM

Merideth's Town Dock Restaurant.

OK, thanks all for straightening me out. I thought they were in Alton. I went back and looked and somehow missed the part when they were pulling into the restaurant.

Steveo 09-11-2012 12:00 PM

where in Alton

Can anyone tell me where the house in Alton was located. I've never seen it from the lake

It is on Olive street, a small dead end dirt road. It is a bit north of west Alton marina/sandbar. It looks across between diamond and rattlesnake. I believe that puts it around the corner from smith point.

Nicole has the details

For "direct scoup" information on the HGTV Winnipesaukee episode, Nicole Watkins of Lakes Region Realty Group was the agent who appeared in the show. Her website is www.NicoleWatkins.com.

Alton....upscale?

After spending 53 summers there I was amazed to find out from the show that Alton is one of the upscale towns on the lake. It was great to see the back bay in Alton and some of the older homes along 28A. I would have gone with the house in Tuftonboro myself. Can't understand those folks obsession with a green lawn. The place they chose looked more like it belonged in Bedford than a Lake Winni vacation spot. No trees, either, but then again the wife complained that the trees in Tuftonboro blocked her view. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

SIKSUKR 11-26-2012 08:55 AM

If you saw my lawn in Bedford you wouldn't think that.

SunsetPointWentworth 12-16-2013 10:35 PM

Lake Winni on House and Garden TV.

Nationally televised, Home and Garden Television, followed a couple around the lake as they looked for a summer house. The name of the show is House Hunters.

...oh buoy....I am waiting for them to come knock on the door of my cozy little mongrel cottage....maybe they will give me some money for this photographic opportunity or perhaps they could help me with shoveling some snow u-know?:D:laugh::D If they come back when the weather is a lot warmer, then maybe they could help me with painting the shingles outside, too ....ho-ho-ho?:):coolsm::)

Merrymeeting 12-17-2013 07:52 AM

This one's been on many times over the past few years, and there is another thread on it already.

"No manicured lawn"...as a primary criterion. Look in the suburbs instead! :(

SIKSUKR 12-17-2013 11:25 AM

Here's an older thread

Not the first time I've been a Johnny come lately on this site and I'm sure not the last :( Can one of the administrators add this to the other post and delete this post? Thanks.

winnipiseogee 04-24-2015 04:49 AM

Looks like the househunters family didn't like their purchase on the lake.

They have listed the house for sale

http://www.beangroup.com/homes/NH/Me...ve/2134415741/

MeredithMan 04-24-2015 09:52 AM

Many possible reasons why someone sells....

not necessarily because they didn't like the place. Family situation, kids get bored with it, need the money....who knows? Not anyone's business but theirs.

I remember when that place sold in 2012...somewhere in the low 900's, I believe. New sticker price is 1,399....50% price increase? Good for them if they can get it!!
