Wood Winnipesaukee Charts

Update!!

Our lake made it to the final ten! Please vote!

https://www.facebook.com/BelowTheBoat?fref=ts

Hi guys, I know this is my first post so I would like to state upfront that I am NOT affiliated with this company. But I would like to see Lake Winnipesaukee added to their inventory! Check out http://www.belowtheboat.com/

They make really nice wood charts, but they do not have our Lake! I am dying to purchase a couple for myself, but they do not make one off orders.
They only tally up requests for lakes and that dictates which one they will create next.

So if you are as interested as I am please, please, please go here and request Lake Winnipesaukee at the top.

Please don't misconstrue this as an add. I honestly want to buy these for myself and family. My family has been vacationing twice a year in Wolfeboro for 50+ years!

Thanks guys!

I saw something similar to that, though not as detailed, and I think for Winnisquam, not Winnipesaukee, at the Party store on Union Ave. in Laconia.

RLW? What's that?

If it's an admin, I'm serious when I say I'm not a spammer. I want this chart to be made. Where else could I get better support? Also I wouldn't want to just post in other threads with useless little comments to make me look more legitimate. I hope this doesn't get locked, :(

BroadHopper 01-15-2013 11:55 AM

At that price

I'm sure there is a limited market.

I remember a while back when '3D printers' came out, the print shop at my work did a demonstration by printing a 3D image of the Great Bay below the water line. It was unreal how it can be done with just a CG map for input!

They didn't say how much it cost to create it, but the printer itself was in the hundreds of thousands.

RLW is a member here. He likes to be the "official greeter" when new folks post a message. It's nothing more than that.

I went the page and added a request for Winnipesaukee, as well as "liking" them on FB. I hope that helps your quest for a wooden chart for our lake.

I have one of Winnipesaukee from this company:

http://www.customlakeart.com/

It's very cool. They sell them at the Party Store on Union Ave. in Laconia.

I voted. Winnipesaukee currently has the most votes.

rgilfert 01-31-2013 04:41 PM

Too bad it's misspelled...but I voted for it. Very cool, albeit $$

Lucy Goose 02-01-2013 10:12 AM

You got my vote on their page and the facebook page! Would love one myself!

Up to 93, we clearly have the most.....can't wait to order one.

Loony Singer 02-10-2013 09:36 AM

there is a wooden Winni chart already...very pricey, though

FYI...here's a link to an outfit that already offers wooden Winnipesaukee charts: http://www.nnchart.com. If you go to this site and do the virtual store tour, you can see a Winni chart on the wall.

I had seen these last year, but couldn't remember the name of the outfit. They have two retail stores, one in St. Armands Key, FL and the other in Annapolis, MD.

They clearly produce their charts to order, as there are lots of options: different woods, stain colors, frames and sizes. The Winni chart is available in several sizes, plus as a serving tray or wall clock. I did note that the water on the smaller sizes, tray and clock only has one "depth" (single layer of cutout wood) vs. several in the larger sizes.

These are real works of art, for sure. But it looks like their prices may be out of whack compared to other options

I just received an email stating that this was a go...

Ahoy,

Exciting news, Lake Winnipesaukee is going into production! Thank you for emailing us to request that we create it, we're incredibly proud of how it turned out. Please click here for a preview.

We were convinced that it was too complicated a subject but, after getting an incredible number of requests for it via email and after it won our Facebook survey, we knew we had to roll up our sleeves and figure it out... and wow, we're sure glad we did!

We plan to be finished with our first batch in early June and we've already added you to our backorder list, we'll email you a week before they're ready to give you a chance to order one before we open it up to the public.

You're not locked into anything and we don't want a deposit, but please keep an eye open for our next email which will let you know that we're ready for your order.

Hope you're excited, we'll be in touch!

I was intrigued, so I followed the link.
Way to expensive, $358, for us common folks

BroadHopper 04-20-2013 09:03 AM

3D print of the Great Bay

It was far more detailed than the Lake map that is online. I will wait until there is topography. That will make the $358 worthwhile.

We were at St. Armand Circle, at Sarasota Fl. a few weeks ago. Walked past the wood chart shop and noticed a (beautiful) wood chart of Winni on the wall very near the front window. About 4' x 4'.

We went in to look more closely. Clerk said that about once every hour, Winni people come in to look at it, every day ! (Damn tourists)

Lovely but $4000.00 was a bit over the top.

laviniasdining 05-08-2013 04:04 PM

These Charts will be available locally, middle of June!

Home Comfort in Center Harbor is proud to now be a local, authorized dealer of these BEAUTIFUL Lake Winnipesaukee wood charts! Just received (today) our first one (more won't be available until June 15th, we are supplied by the same manufacturer as the company mentioned in above thread).

Come take a look--there will also be one hanging at Lavinia's Relaxed Dining once our complete order ships. Now taking advanced orders 603.253.6660.
Shop local!

Our wooden lake chart arrived today and it is absolutely beautiful and professionally crafted. Its 3-D topo. representation of the lake bottom is really fascinating.

Happy Gourmand 06-27-2013 07:26 AM

I'm torn between hanging it at home or at the lake house

pjard 06-27-2013 04:06 PM

Got it last week and it's amazing

We picked up the wood chart last week over in Wolfeboro. I could stare at it for hours...it's very cool!

AC2717 06-27-2013 04:07 PM

i love them, but for me they are a little out of my wheel house for pricing, but not saying that it is not justified

Pricey, yes, but it will make a great conversation piece. Pretty neat to look at.

surfnsnow 06-27-2013 04:56 PM

i'm thinking of buying one, does the picture do it justice or is it more impressive seeing the real thing?

I have one and the picture does not do it justice! These things are a work of art!

Happy Gourmand 06-27-2013 08:51 PM

I agree. You won't be able to take your eyes off of it. You will only talk about the price once, but the satisfaction and conversation that it will generate will last a lifetime.
$358 well spent.

Can anyone else who has one of these tell me if Moose and Ship Island are colored like land, or do they look like they're a very shallow spot under the water?

beagle 08-30-2013 10:09 AM

Art Place Wolfeboro

has a wood Winni chart in their window last time I was there a couple of weeks ago. I think it is the same one we have been talking about. btw I would avoid going tomorrow because there is a new Peter Furber show opening at 9:30. :D

Thanks guys!

I'm glad I voted! My husband and I received one as a gift for our 35th anniversary from our kids. It's beautiful and it's such an appropriate gift from them to us!

No, neither actually appear to break the surface. My guess is becuase this map is made of wood (birch) they just couldn't get it small enough. There are several islands and channels that aren't on there...even the Weirs but this thing is still awesome.

It's not in the window now, it's on the wall halfway to the back of the shop. We checked it out this afternoon - even my kids were impressed. The photos really don't do this art justice, it's stunning.
