Who's going to Pond Hockey?
Hope to see some forumites at Pond Hockey! We will be down at Lago tonight then on the ice Sat.
It sounds like Lakeside deli will have chairs and some outdoor venue set up. Lago has a beer tent set up on the ice... with heat. What a great boon to the local economy. |

Lakes Region Aerial Photography posted this great shot on their Facebook page. There are lots of other great aerial photos there too: http://www.facebook.com/aerial.photoNH

That is what it looked like maybe on Wednesday, Jan 30, but the picture for Thursday, January 31 would be at least a little bit different what with almost all of the white snow including the individual rink snow "boards" melted away from the heavy rain and 55-degree temps on Thursday. Plus, the area size of open water close (just outside of photo) to the Meredith Yacht Clubs docks, and docks along Pleasant St have increased, too.
While it would be very nice if the ice rinks venue still looked like this photo......the conditions for today February 1 are a different photo what with most of the snow including the border embankments having been melted/washed away as of yesterday! |
Pond Hockey is Rocking
It is Friday, 2/1/13: I am looking out my office window overlooking Meredith Bay and the ice is filled with oodles of hockey players. When I arrived at work at 8am today, the place was rocking! Although the weather has been a little odd for this time of year, it is cold out today and forecast is for cold in upcoming week. Enjoy the hockey tournament, and come back next week for the 34th Annual Derby!

Will someone please post some pics?

So there.
Do they have a "rink" available just to buzz around on? If your not Playing? |
I'll be down at some point with my daughter, niece, and nephew.
Unfortunately I think it will be a bit dangerous to be on the ice without creepers or some other ice grippers on your feet. Can anyone confirm this? Hope everyone has a great time! |

May stop by.
I am planning on hitting the slopes as there is less crowd during Superbowl weekend. (What's Superbowl this year???)
The beer tent sounds inviting for apre ski! |

Pond Hockey
My wife and I took a ride to Meredith just after lunch (at Village Kitchen) and the place was just alive with people, dogs, motorized conveyances, to include a helicopter, huts, woodstoves, hospitality tents, grills, American flags, sticks, skates, pucks, and anything else you can imagine.
As we sat in the parking lot by the docks area we were transformed from reality (as presented in the newspapers and the daily TV news) to Americana at its best. All I can say is, "Way to go, people, enjoy life and keep on keepin' on!!" |
Pictures
I went to the Pond Hockey Classic yesterday. It is truely "Northern Exposure"...nice to see this type of event. This is a link to pictures:

Great Fun
Wow, what a great time! Saw some old friends too! I went for a helicopter ride and that was a blast. The only thing missing was the throng of snowmobiles. What a bummer about the lack of snow. It certainly made walking around interesting. I wish I had brought my skates.

Woops already posted this in the ice in thread, but here's a Panorama from Saturday

"the Locals"
What a great weekend! I saw many forum folks there including Hazelnut, Samiam (I believe), Baygo, and Cristen.
The restaurants were packed and people were having fun. Can't wait until next year! The "Locals", the under 35 "for fun" team came in second place. The skaters are from Moultonborough and Plymouth. Congratulations to them. |
was there Friday to watch my nephew and sister in law play. We had lunch at Lakeside Deli, was packed when we first went in, but cleared just before 2 so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. My four year old grandson claimed the best burger he ever had. The BLT was really good too. We watched them play from accross the street from Lakeside. Grandson delighted he could go on ice. Only reason I let him was because it was a couple of inches deep. Would have stayed longer but it was so cold

Bigger every year
This is the fourth Classic I have played in and it just gets better every year. 200 teams and 1400 players and at the end of the weekend Lago smelled like a locker room. I was comfortable there. They had a major challenge again this year with the ice.
