Smoking at NHMS
 

FYI to those who live out of state that did not here about it.
NHMS has banned smoking in the grandstands. :D

No Smoking
 

That's great. As I've always said, feel free to light up, as long as I don't have to smell it or deal with the ashes. I've been around people with those electronic cigarettes -- which have no odor, no ashes, and seem to work, according to those that use them.

The sport was built by Winston and they had the sponsorship for years 30+ years. They stopped around 2002 - 2003 or so. I remember going to the races and them handing out free cigarettes. It then went to Nextel for a few years before Sprint took over and still has it. It doesn’t bother me one way or another I don’t smoke but when I did and was in a crowd I would always wait to go down and use the restroom and I believe that's what most did.

I imagine it is. And I know a lot of people go to the effort to minimize the effects of their smoking. But nonetheless -- not having to deal with it is a real relief to many, many more people that are affected by cigarette smoke in one way or another, so Í'm glad to see the restriction being put into place.

The economic impact of the two Sprint Cup races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway adds $179 million in spending, $103 million in income, and the creation of 2,500 jobs. Not bad from all these "Rednecks", eh?

In addition, it's been determined that the income distribution of NASCAR fans closely mirrors that of the overall U.S. population with 20% making less than $30,000; 25% making between $30,000 - $50,000; and 55% making more than $50,000.

In recent decades, the term "Redneck" has referred to bigoted, loutish reactionaries who are opposed to modern ways, and has often been used to attack white Southern conservatives. The term is used broadly to degrade working class and rural whites that are perceived by urban progressives to be insufficiently liberal. My question is: Is that how you meant to describe New Hampshire's NASCAR audience?

Next thing you know they will make all the race car drivers use electric motors so that none of the 90,000 spectators don't have to breath in all the exhaust fumes.

Very nice job rebutting the use of that term.

Or stop the winners rrom burning rubber so they don't have to breath the burnt rubber fumes.

Maybe they should police their own. When I was making the commute between Hudson Mass and here I had to travel past the track on many a Friday or Saturday night, some of the things I witnessed led me to use the term you mentioned. Throwing bottles and cans & trash out the windows. Racing down the road passing in no passing zones, and I could go on.
Now I know it is many times the actions of a few who ruin it for the majority but never the less these are things that you just do not see happening in NH except for race W/E and during a busy holiday weekend.

First of all you have a choice to move away from the front if you do not like the fumes.
It is a lot different being up in the stands then having to sit next to someone who smokes and being unable to move. Those who go to the races do so because they want to go full well knowing where they will be sitting in relation to the noise and fumes, those who do not smoke and find themselves surrounded by smokers do not have a choice.

Use of electric motors (assuming normal recharge rates of up to 8 hours) would certainly provide a different Pit Stop experience, wouldn't it?

This ban on smoking should up the sales of Redman chewing tobacco.

If you see a package of Redman chewing tobbaco sticking out of the back pocket of someone, then he is a true "Redneck".

I'd rather sit beside someone smoking cigarettes then someone chewing tobacco and spitting in a paper cup that is overflowing with 10 day old spit.

Kind of makes me wonder what kind of a person would stereotype 90,000+ people who have such a positive effect on the NH economy. I am a professional, never miss a race, take care of my trash and obey the speed limits!

If that makes me a redneck then I am proud of it!

What sporting event holds more people that allows the people to drink alcohol beverages and to bring in your own to boot? Answer not one that I know of.You never see fights like you do at a Pats game and there is 35,000 more people. I have never seen people throwing beers cans out any windows if they did it was a full one give to someone.NASCAR is a sport where you love it or hate it. Lots of die hard fans and I am one of them. I have been to a lot of different tracks and the people are just so nice.If you don't like it just remember it brings you in a quarter of a million dollars to your state!That's a good thing.Try bringing a young kid to a local small track and the kid will have a blast and want to go back every week.


BroadHopperAt one time back in the 60's they were all smoking, drivers included.There is not a lot of smoking anymore anyway so I don't think its going to be an issue.Also rednecks is kind of a name of the pass nobody uses it unless you go down to Talladega where they drinks tons of beers and do crazy things!!
