OMC Auxilllary gas tank needed?
 

Does anyone have a OMC Auxilllary gas tank either for sale or know where I can buy one?

FYI, have already checked Craigslist but no luck :(

Overton's sells plastic tanks in all kinds of sizes and shapes. You may be able to transfer the existing fitting or can buy a new fitting at local hardware stores for about $9.

Plastic tanks should be kept out of the sun. At a garage sale, I bought a somewhat sun-faded plastic tank for $1 just to see what made them "tick".

The result was disappointing: they're really simple inside, so I stacked the two halves in my garage for a photograph, and forgot about them. Later, when I looked for them, the bottom half had torn itself into several weird shapes. :eek:

The below photo is the top half, which I'm adapting for an irrigation project—unrelated to gasoline.

I need a single line type OMC tank.

My setup has one fuel line coming off external fuel-filter seperater, directly into the outboard connection. I have another separate line from oil tank resevoir directly into outboard connection. They're wrapped together, b ut separate lines.

That said, I can leave the oil line connected to the outboard as is,
and just remove the current fuel line from fuel-filter, and use the aux. tank connection instead in it's place as the source for gas.

Please let me know if you have single line type OMC tank.

I have a Mercury tank and what I believe is a Johnson tank. Both are 6 gallon single line The Johnson tank may leak around the fitting. I haven't used either of them in many years. They are stored in a shed but show significant aging.

If you are going to be passing through Merrimack NH on a weekend, send me a PM and I'll give you my cell #, or give me yours. I'm in and out on weekends but if I know you're coming we can co-ordinate a meeting.

Anyway, called M & M, they have no OMC tanks in inventory.

I have a very nice red plastic, six-gallon OMC single line tank, along with a red plastic tank holder tray, and could probably get along without it becuz I have a Yamaha six gallon, red plastic similar tank which I am not using.

It will cost you the big money.....will not let it go for cheapie....so's make me a reasonable offer in your mind and then triple that....and its yours!

I have two OMC 6 gallon tanks, no rust but without hoses. They are $15 dollars each or two for $25. I no longer use them because I found a three gallon tank works for me. I found a day of fishing with three gallons is more than enough for my small engine.

I connected with GreensKeeper over the weekend, and bought his two OMC tanks ! :)

On that note, I purchased new OMC gas line with Primer bulb. The gas line is 8' long. Can I connect the entire line as is out of the package, from tank to engine? Again, this need for the auxilliary tank, is to test the gas source, and whether the gas in the main tank (under the deck), is what's causing my engine problems. Just trying to eliminate one source at a time.....
When I isolate the gas issue, I will cut the new gas line to fit as current setup.

Can the length of gas line actually create an issue ? Also, I heard somewhere, where you should run the gas line horizontal from external separating filter to the engine, and not have the 'primer' bulb be positioned verticle, under any circumstances.

I have a couple of tanks from an old Evinrude outboard. One is metal and the other is plastic. If anyone wants them PM me and they're yours. There's some two year old gas in one of them that you you'll need to take too. And you need to pick them up in Merrimack. That's why they're free!

It's been my observation that fuel lines are oriented in whatever direction is most practical for the boat in question.

Primer bulbs mounted vertically with the flow direction in the "up" position will probably drain slower due to gravity helping keep the flapper valves closed. If you have faulty primer bulb you can make it function by holding it with the flow in the up direction for the same reason. I don't think I've ever seen one 'mounted' though. Make sure you leave enough room to grab it without banging your knuckles!

Keep your fuel runs as short as possible. 8' should be no problem for a healthy, stock fuel pump.

I am not sure the primer bulb "cares" which way it is orientated.

I don't understand why you didn't just buy the new hose (single hose type?), and cut the gas tank connector off (you are going to shorten it anyways), and just use a 6-Gallon Gerry can and put the loose hose into the bottom of the Gerry can for testing purposes.?

Check what's inside your filters. Fuel line deterioration is a real threat with the new gas. Junk in the filters means junk in carbs.

Another question please......

Regarding the gas line 'vent' hose.....
The vent hose is attached to my gas filler cap, then runs to the gas tank itself..... I believe there is another another vent hose piece, which connects from the other side of the gas tank to the engine? If so, how will the 'vent' hose connection affect the engine, if the permanent gas line is no longer connected to the engine using the aux. tank connection?
