Please No

:( I hope this doesn't happen. Where am I going to send my husband while I shop in Tilton. I usually drop him off there and I spend the day at the outlets. Yikes!! :emb:

Belmont taxes increasing...

If this is true, Belmont may need to increase their tax rate to cover the town budget, in the future.

GWC... 04-27-2005 01:47 PM

Track closing...

and so it goes...

GWC... 04-28-2005 07:43 AM

The saga continues...

"But the filing of yet another objection in court on Tuesday to have another bid process by people who were too cheap to be the high bidder to begin with," Newman continued, "has led us to the belief that their intent is to continue litigation into the foreseeable future which means staying open is impossible."

News?

Was wonder if there was any news concerning the racetrack. Does it look like the new buyer might re-open the track or make it into condos?

Thanks

Is bye-bye a bad thing ?

Is the track going bye bye bad thing? Yes there would be the loss of jobs and tax revenue to the town and the state, which would be unfortunate but think of all the dogs that wouldn't have a place to race anymore. To me that is an upside. Granted there are other tracks in NH, MA and CT, but I was involved with retired racing greyhound adoption for more then ten years and have seen the effects of racing and what it can do to a dog. Now I know there are good and bad in every sport, but in a perfect world I would like to see the people who own/invest and make money off the dogs be the ones who find a home for the dog when they are through with them opposed to making it some one elses's responsibility. If a dog doesn't get brought to an adoption program and aren't good for breeding they are generaly put down at the ripe old age of 3. They do make great pets and can live to be 12-13. I can't remember who said it but one way a "society is judged is by how it treats it animals"

That was attributed to Winston Churchill:

Quote:

"You can judge the greatness of a country by how it treats its animals."
Groups that oppose gambling, state that gambling costs to society are triple what is returned.

Hmmmm...

Gee, how about that

***** Saying it was incomplete, the state Pari-Mutuel Commission on Friday declined to accept the application of Lakes Region Gaming LLC for a license to operate the Lakes Region Greyhound Park in Belmont.

And because the application has to be resubmitted, the commission also took no action on a request from the prospective track owners to waive a requirement of the license that the facility have live racing this season.

What is also unlikely, based on comments at the commission meeting, is the support of other New Hampshire dog track operators for Lakes Region Greyhound Park being able to forego the entire live racing season.

Johnstone has said it was it would be nearly impossible to have live racing this year because of the long lead time needed to reactivate the track which has been shut down since April 27.

Speaking for Rockingham Park in Salem and Yankee Greyhound Park in Seabrook, Dan Callahan told the commission that they should not waive the live racing requirement for the Belmont track.

"You have to have live racing," he said, adding that excluding Lakes Region from that requirement created "an unfair competitive advantage" for it.

"This is the wrong way to go," said Callahan. *****

(Yes, I'm quoting myself, here).

NH police just broke up an [alleged] illegal drug racket at that same Greyhound Track this week.

Maybe the social costs are greater than "triple"?

Update

My husbands son will be in NH at the end of August on vacation with his family for two weeks. He usually goes to the track with his father for the Travers - this year on 8/27. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control, have made it impossible for us to go on vacation this year :( :emb: , so he's on his own. Are there other places for him to go and watch this event? Does local cable offer a race channel? Short of driving the 2+ hours to Rockingham Park. In NY we have the OTB parlors. He's renting in Laconia. Any ideas we can pass on will be helpful. Thx.

Paugus Bay Resident 08-02-2005 09:28 AM

As of yesterday, the sign still says "Operations Suspended - Sale Pending". So, I would say it looks highly doubtful that it would be opened by the end of the month.

Haven't heard much about it in the paper lately either.

Paugus Bay Resident 08-02-2005 03:50 PM

Don't forget, there's also a track in Seabrook that has simulcasts. Never been there, so I don't know what it's like. Personally, I'd rather go to the Seabrook area than Salem ;). They're about the same distance from where I live, but I think there's more to do around Seabrook.

Seabrook

Hey PB, if you need any info on Seabrook (at the track or restaurants or otherwise) activities let me know, I live all of 5 miles from the track (if that). Maybe we could even meet up! :)

Bus

Hey Waterbaby,

Do you know if there is a bus that goes from Laconia/Meredith area to Seabrook? I've looked into Concord Trailways and it looks like after Manchester it goes south to Logan Airport, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Oh Boy

Any idea when the track will open?

GWC... 12-08-2005 03:02 PM

Belmont track to open in near future...

The track is scheduled to open as soon as the paperwork is finalized, which was delayed by the hurricane that visited Mississippi with a relentless furry.

Any News

Thought I would check in to see if there are any updates on when the track will be opening. We are planning to be up in NH in mid-July and hope it's open by then.

Thanks,
M

Drove by on Friday 5/19 and there was construction going on.

tricia1218 05-21-2006 05:14 PM

I drove by the track on Sunday. There was a sign, It is going to be called The Lodge, there was not a opening date.

Mr. V 05-21-2006 07:33 PM

It would be a great place for a tribal casino.

You Yankees DO have indians up there, I trust?
