Steve Winwood / Allman Brothers

Anyone else go see Steve Winwood and the Allman Brothers last night at Meadowbrook??

All I can say is WOW! What a spectacular show!

I have seen the Allman Brothers before so I knew what to expect but they were exceptional last night!

Steve Winwood and his band blew me away! They sounded so good and have such talent. Total class act!

Just a great show all around!

I am going to see the Alllmans next week down here at the Comcast Center (or in the good ol' days, the Tweeter Center). Sadly it's not Steve Winwood as the backup, it's Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Much rather see Steve Winwood, but I guess more time to hang out in the parking lot before the show.

Glad to hear they were exceptional. I get worried that these shows with the older bands are not going to be what they used to. Last year I saw ZZ Top with Lynard Skynard as the backup, Skynard was amazing, ZZ Top was not so good.

Saw Winwood & Co. down here in our local theatre a little over a year ago -- from one of the front 10 rows -- and he blew me away. Hadn't seen him since a Traffic show in '94 (opening for the Dead), and he sounded great. The ABB is firing on all cylinders these days. Amazing, considering it's 2013. Long may they run!

So Grant, how many Dead concerts have you seen? I stopped in '84 with 26 under my belt.

Good question. Let's just say that the first was 9/3/77 and the last was 8/4/94, although I really stopped in '89, but just had to go one last time to make sure. :D

Allman Bros.

Allman Bros. made a lot of appearance at Meadowbrook thru the years. I stop going when they announced that there will be all new songs and no old ones.

From what I hear, lots of old favorites were played. I wish I had gone.

My first Allman Bros concert was back in the '70's when they use to play at colleges such as Plymouth State.

June 9th, 1973 RFK Stadium, with the Allman Brothers was my first. Isn't it amazing how normal we turned out? At least you look normal in your avatar, and I think I'm norml.:laugh:

My last one was Rich Stadium in Buffalo in 1992. Unless Jerry Garcia Band counts. ;)

Oh and Cillovely, I still refer to that place as Great Woods. Old habits die hard.

Winwood was awesome!

My wife and I saw Winwood at the BOA Pavilion in Boston last summer. Absolutely amazing how you can just get better with age. When I closed my eyes some of the old Traffic tunes sounded just like my old vinyl only better.

Saw Winwood with Clapton at MSG a few years ago. Awesome.

Allman Brothers are always great. Big fan of Derek Trucks. That guy can play.

Me too

AB, they were fabulous! Stevie sounds exactly like he did on those old albums and Clapton ain't too bad either!

Definitely, a Great Show

I think they played exactly ONE new song, and I thought it was also great! Regarding the comment someone made that they're still pretty good for a bunch of old guys: Derek Trucks is certainly not that old, and he and Haynes do a great job as ABB's guitar nucleus.

By the way, did anyone notice the old film of Duane Allman being superimposed on the live video image of Trucks playing slide guitar on one or two songs. Interesting effect, certainly the most effective use of video all night. :)

Steve Winwood also sounded great, both his voice and his guitar playing, reminding us song after song just how much he's contributed throughout his career. The sustained standing O's after 2 or 3 classics were WELL deserved.

And before it opened, back in the 80's, we saw lots of (relatively) big names at "Concerts on the Common" in Boston. Those stopped when Great Woods opened.
