Meredith Rotary Ice Fishing Derby 2014

I know it's too soon for the ice-in watch but, it's not too early to book your accommodations for the February ice fishing derby. They sell out fast.

If you wait until the last minute, you'll be sleeping in the shanty.

I just want to thank you all, on these forums, in advance. The web-cams, weather forecasts, fishing, and "GMC Jimmy - through the ice" reports help me get through the winter months. :)

Rotary is a fabulous organization! This event is a win-win for Rotary and for the participants. See you there!

Ice Fishing Derby!

This year, the Rotarians are building a new trailer for the Derby. Our previous trailer, which was in seriously poor condition, was broken down in the Spring. Thankfully, we have so many folks in the Rotary that know how to build a trailer and install the electric, and the computers, and everything! This will be the 35th year for the Derby. See you there. Follow us on Facebook, too.

I am going to purchase a ticket, but I will not be able to make it this time. This will be the second derby I will miss in nearly 30 years. My extended family sold the lake house we have had in the family since circa 1960. Both my grandparents have passed and they want to cash in. My immediate family (parents, siblings) and I are not able to meet the asking price. Maybe this isn't the place for this, but I am so upset and don't know how to grieve for something like this.

I love the derby and fully support the rotary that my grandparents were a huge part of for years. Hey, maybe I'll win one of the drawings. I hope it's a fantastic year for the derby!

Maybe it's me but I'm not sure how everybody fits into this equation. I'm guessing a piece of the camp is partly your parents (one or the other) if your grandparents have passed? Sucks either way to lose it.

Dad owns 25% of the house and that number was already factored in. It really sucks but at least we get to be done with the extended family for the rest of our lives. That is a positive in all this. Sorry for the side track...

same thing happened in my family. as soon as my great aunt died, her children had the camps (they had 2 side by side) on the market. it had been in the family since the 50's. they too were just looking to cash in. both sickening and sad. i wish my great aunt had left it to my uncle. he and his wife lived a block away and were the only ones who looked after her as she got older. at least he would have kept it and enjoyed it. and appreciated it!
