Thanksgiving Anyone?

I know we're about to celebrate Easter, but has any one spent Thanksgiving and/or Christmas at the lake. It doesn't count if you live in the Lakes Region but feel free to leave your message (don't want to discriminate).

We spent one Thanksgiving on Bear Island. It was incredible. Huge dinner, long walk among the leaves after, crisp, clean Autumn air. Our water was off for the season so we had to do the dishes and get cleaned up with boiled water carried in five gallon buckets from the lake. Our big boat was out for the season too, so we had to use an eleven foot dinghy with a ten hp motor (I think it took at least four trips to get family and food across) but the whole weekend was more an adventure than a burden. I think I was twelve at the time and it's something I'll never forget. I would love to do it now and share it with my girlfriend and her three kids. And, as anyone who spends time at the lake during late fall, it was so peaceful-almost eerily quiet.

So, I would love to hear from you guys. Thanks.

We have spent every Thanksgiving up at the lake since we built the house in 2001. We usually have about 25/30 people including kiddos. It's truly Norman Rockwell. Crisp cool air with the leaves still showing us some color, kids playing out on the beach, dock enjoying the last bits of daylight, afternoon walk bumping into the occassional neighbor everyone bundled up in their winter finery. Friday the kids bowling in Meredith with the dad's and of course Pop, mothers and Nana shopping and out to lunch. We all end up back at the house Friday afternoon for chili and leftovers enjoying some cold beers and listening to classic rock being played throughout the house on the sound system. Numerous games of gin rummy, scrabble and to top off the evening the kids put on their annual talent show with music, dancing and even the sisters getting up and "getting jiggy with it"! So many memories in just a few short years it's incredible. Most importantly the memories ingrained in my childrens and their beloved cousins memories will last forever I hope. :)
