In checking my neighbor's boatlifts, I noticed that about half the clips were secured exactly opposite one another. There is a right way and a wrong way to secure the cables. (Termed "rope" in this advisory):

Because I had no idea what you were talking about and why it mattered I looked up more information:

When using U-bolt clips, extreme care must be exercised to make certain that they are attached correctly. The correct way to attach U-bolts is shown above; the "U" section is in contact with the rope's "dead end" and is clear of the thimble. The "live end", carrying the load, is gripped by the saddle of the clip.

So in other words the ones shown 'could' slip. You inform your neighbor?
