Ice question

I have not been up in a few weeks, hows the ice from Gilford to Meredith Bay?
The Weirs cam, & Alton bay photos show some snow on the ice. Is it possible to go from Gilford beach, out past Governors Island, down to Meredith Bay by snowmobile yet?

Ice safety weekend ofJan 24th

I have not heard anything to the contrary, so I am assuming the main sections of the lakes are frozen and safe it had been super cold for a solid week again?

That link to post #14, with a camper going through the bay in Merideth really seems like it has no bearing on the noverall safety of the rest of the lake.

As of yesterday there was open water on parts of the lake...that may have changed overnight. Please don't assume it's safe.

Bluesman,

YOU MISSED THE POST I HAD DIRECTED YOU TO. POST # 14 IS A SERIES OF ARIAL VIEWS OF THE LAKE, NOT THE UTV GOING THROUGH THE ICE.

Spindle Point?Weirs to Meredith

I rode the lake on Sat & Sun from Spindle Point and Weirs to Meredith. No problems! Lots of people out riding the lake after this past weeks COLD spell!

Ice

Rode 75 miles on the lake on Saturday, from ctr harbor to the pond hockey spectacle in Meredith to Alton bay, we didn't see any open water, didn't go looking near welch island where it was reported last week, there was a big pressure ridge across the broads that we had to skirt way to the east to cross, it actually petered out when it approached 200 yds from east shore.
Need more snow this week to be able to ride the lake next weekend, derby weekend!
Trails barely rideable Saturday-tree

Sunday ride

We put about 45 miles on from 20 mile to Melvin Village, onto the trail system. First couple of miles were very thin but it got much better. Ended up crossing mirror Lake on the way back towards the lake. Thanks to the two riders that pointed us newbies back in the right direction! Snow drifts on the lake kept us on our toes!

I just saw this from the Emerson Aviation Page:

Its official, Ice in. We've been watching this area now for a month now. Normal freeze over is typically the third week of January. This by no means an endorsement as to the thickness or safety of the lake. We would recommend that still stay clear of this area unless you take thickness samples. If anyone does let us know what you find. Because it has been so cold and has taken this long we would assume that the thickness is very variable at best. Next up, ice out! I know a lot of folks are ready. Me too!

Looks like Emerson posted that about 4pm today.

Does that mean it's ice out when that small spot opens back up? :D
