Need help identifying this island

1 Attachment(s)
Got a message from someone looking for help identifying the island in the picture. Text attached to email reads:

I believe that my Great Grandmother Gillman once owned “Tenney’s Island on Lake Winnipesaukee but I cannot find the Island on your listing? Was there ever such an island? I have a photo of the island taken in 1946.
Can you identify it? Many thanks

Anyone?

looks like the little island just east of Locke's

In the background left is Welch's, to the right is Diamond and then Rattlesnake.

I think it is called Rock Is. but I will need to check a map.

Rock Island

Upthesaukee is correct...Looks like the picture was snapped from Locke's island. The island in the picture is "Rock" island...

Agreed, Rock Island.

Rock Island

There's another Rock Island near Shepard Island, across from Shep Brown's.

In 1936 one E. S. Tenny sold what is now Rock Island off of Locle's to A. Ernest Clark, Book 226 Page 420.

Go to google map and zoom in...

The house looks like the same footprint, and you can see the rocks in the right foreground. Love it.

Here's a few shots in PhotoPost labeled as "Rock Island". I can't tell for sure that it is the same one.

You can notice the rocks at the lower left of the island in this picture are the rocks in Diver's picture to the lower right of the Island.

Wow that didn't take long. Thank you all I will pass along this web link so they can read all the posts.

Great being able to tap the folks on Winni.com. Well done!

island ID

Sorry to disagree. That is one of three Loon Islands on the lake and is located just off the southeast corner of Cow Island. The view appears to be from the large beach on that part of Cow and was a familiar sight for anyone who attended Camp Idlewild.

The Loon Island that's located just off the southeast corner of Cow Island has a tiny camp on it, with only about eight inches of "freeboard" from "full-pond" Lake Winnipesaukee.

Headway speed in the area would have benefited them immeasurably.

:look:

If this was around Cow Island, the background of Rattlesnake Is. and Diamond Is. would be more of a broadside view, if you could actually see both islands from Cow Is.

If I am looking at Cow Is correctly, the beach you referenced appears to be in a cove on Cow. If I am correct, and looking at the island with the house on it from that beach, if you draw a line from the beach to the island and continue it to the other shore, it hits the shoreline in between Windleblo Rd and Bowker Rd.

My observations are from Google Earth. Still have to believe we are looking at Rock Island in Gilford, with the views of Diamond partly hiding Rattlesnake, and the land mass to the left to be Welch's Is.

Sorry to disagree, and is done respectfully so. :)

Sorry, but there is no doubt in my mind that island is "Rock Island". Rattlesnake, Diamond and Welch island are in perfect configuration and right where they should be in the background.

apologies

I regret to say that I've violated Holmes' dictum against theorizing in advance of facts. I have to change my mind and also go with Rock Island near Locke's, just outside Glendale. Sorry - I was clearly the one confused!

BTW - There are also three Rock Islands

There is no land close in the background in the original picture. I am going with Loon Island off Cow.

I still got an education.

I did not know, or never noticed that small island with a house on it by Cow Is, not that we got by that way a lot, but I do tend to notice the small islands with just one house on it. Especially, if it is so small there is no lawn to mow when at the lake.

I did have to go to Google Earth, and then go to satellite view, and got my education.

Thanks :)
