Hello,
We are archiving our collections here at the Lake Winnipesaukee Museum and I thought I would share some old photo's with you on occasion if people would like to see them! |
Bottom photo depicts the original train station in Alton Bay before it burnt down in 1906. Here are some other images of the building.

Old Mount in Alton
Amazes me how they always docked port to the pier. Must have been interesting in a strong wind to come down into the bay and make that turn to starboard to dock in that way, especially with a sidewheeler.

Looking at these pictures makes me wish they still had a train to the lake. I've taken the Down Easter to Portland a few times, and, totally enjoyed it. Thanks for some great pictures! Really got my imagination going:)

Shorpy is a good site for old pictures. Here's a link to a couple and searching for "New Hampshire" will find more. If you click the pictures they open up huge and surprisingly detailed for the age.
