Plane crash-lands on Alton Bay
ALTON, N.H. —A single-engine experimental plane crashed while coming in for a landing on an ice runway in Alton Bay on Saturday morning.

The pilot said his wing hit a snow bank, spun out of control and crashed. No one was injured. The pilot was the only person in the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration has been called to the scene. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation. The plane is registered to a pilot from Hampton Falls. The Alton Bay Ice Runway on Lake Winnipesaukee is one of the most unique airports in the country. It is only open in the winter and hundreds of pilots brave the cold for the chance to land on the ice. The ice runway is still operational and safe for planes to land. The only thing you could see from the ramp was the tip of the wing and the tail. RiverRat was about 50 feet from where it was lying. Hope he caught some fish with all the activity around him.

RiverRat - Nice meeting you out on the ice today. So glad the pilot walked away unharmed but so sad to see his plane in that condition. A busy day out on the bay! PS Just saw you on WMUR
