Flood Watches - Read & heed
I have posted some pictures of our little brook behind our house in the past. With the flood watches that are in effect actually all over the northeast, I thought it would be interesting to chronicle my little brook from my dining room window. (Hopefully with a good outcome!:) )
Here's a picture from Saturday morning about 9AM: nice little brook showing signs of run off. http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopo...ook_0402am.jpg And here's one from Saturday at about 4:30 PM: Still a nice little brook, just a little more water. http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopo...rook0402pm.jpg And here's two from Sunday morning about 9AM. http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopo...rook0403am.jpg and from outside showing the scope of the flooding. http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopo...3amoutside.jpg And that's why you pay attention to flood watches!!!! Oh yes, a good outcome. |
Holy Cow!!!
HOLY COW!!! Those are some amazing photo's. YIKES!!!
|
That flooded "little brook" looks awfully close to your house! Hopefully you won't get a wet basement.
|
Upthesaukee: You sure have a lot of excitement going on in your yard! I hope Thomasina the Turkey can swim! :look:
|
I'd take a photo of the brook on my property too, but it's totally underground!
You can only hear it -- babbling away most of the year. |

Here's a couple of shots of the fall at Mills Falls (this morning). The sight and sound were pretty impressive.

Flood damage not as bad as expected...

DRH...Yes it is, but we've actually seen it higher, and no water under the house. it's actually crawl space underneath...the house started off as a 40x8 trailer with a 22x8 porch, and now is a 10 room house!...and not to jinx ourselves, but we've never had running water from the brook under it yet, just rain run off from the yard.
McDude I think the turkey has "water wings" ;) Paugus bay --- I bet there was a really roar to the falls!!!!! Great pics |

Holey Moley!
Hey Upthesaukee - can I come over with my white-water raft?
Seriously, though that looks pretty creepy! What happens to all the vegetation under that rushing water? No yard left come spring? |
New Lakes Region Attraction
You can sell tickets and give rides until the Surf Coaster opens. :)
|
Alas, it is already pretty much back to a babbling brook, so Pepper with her winni thong and white water raft will not be able to enjoy Surfcoaster East...but great idea GTXRider. I could have a seasonal business here...3 or 4 days per year, depending on run off and rain!!!!!
You guys are too much. |
UPTHESAUKEE let McDude at it
My suggestion is to let McDude at it with his kayak for practice and then turn him lose on the Mills Falls.
|
OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Great idea!!!! |
Yikes! I think you guys are trying to do me in! :D What if I crash into Pepper on her white water raft?...or the turkey?

Remember the Franklin Flood? It was
1983-4.
It was a good one. The Franklin Police Department Explorers helped move all the furniture from a downtown furniture store. Pretty scary time. |
McDude...Let's see, that would make a new sandwich at Waldo Pepper's called:
The McDude Pepper Turkey on White (water) sandwich. (Hold the mayo & veggies, please!) Lady Di -- We were only weekend visitors back then, but knowing Franklin, I can imagine what that river would do going over the banks. Went by the Winni river on Sunday, water was high, but not real high. Still well within the banks. |
Waukewan froze high to begin with. Last I was up there the ice was up to our retaining wall (mid march) which is unusually high for ice on any year. That's a lot of water dumping over the falls, think I may make a road trip this weekend and forged the mud bog to the house just to see how things are.
