The "Citizen" is reporting a plane crash near Diamond Island. Anyone see anything?

I'm happy the pilot is safe but would love to know what it is going to cost to get it up and out of 105 feet of water. I would imagine it has the same restrictions/fines that a snowmobile would.

Not the safetest time of year
 

Again, I am glad the pilot is OK but I really have to question why he decided to do touch and go's this time of year - ice floes, debris of all kinds, water at 40 degrees and no one around to help if in trouble - not the smartest thing I've heard.

On the island right now. Just got back from trolling around the island and saw nothing. By the way where is everyone??? I am the only one out here !!

How can you be near tuftonboro neck and by rattlesnake island in Alton at the same time. Per wmur

I am pretty sure Tuftonboro responded as they headed out Tuftonboro Neck with their boat and trucks and private vehicles.

From the pilots point of view I can only imagine he is required to have so much time, or so many practice landings to achieve a qualification for water landings. A this time of year he may have figured this to be the safest time, having the lake to himself, with no other traffic. He could be trying to prepare or practice for landing on the lake this summer and getting as much practice as he can by starting early. All speculation. Glad no one was injured.

Good question and one that deserves an answer. The plane was almost equal distance from Diamond Island, Middle Ground Shoal, and Millstone Point off Tuftonboro Neck in about 106 feet of water. A quick look at the town boundaries shows that while the plane was fairly close to Tuftonboro Neck it was in fact in the town of Alton. The boundary heads just off Parker Island in an almost direct line over towards Moultonboro Neck. That puts the plane well inside the town limit of Alton. In fact both Tuftonboro and Alton FD responded and Tuftonboro assisted but withdrew and left Alton in charge so they apparently thought the plane was in Alton as was reported.

The first on scene was a NH Marine patrol vessel and the officer took the pilot on board. Soon after a workboat from Goodhue & Hawkins Navy Yard in Wolfeboro showed up and tied a line to the plane which was almost submerged as the photo above shows. The Goodhue Hawkins crew stood by as the MP Officer transported the pilot to the Gilford Town docks for any needed medical attention.

After the two Fire Departments showed up and rendered assistance another MP Boat was on scene followed by the first MP vessel to arrive. Dive Winnipesaukee was there with a couple of boats and attempted to raise the plane.

No further info at this time.

I understand that the NHMP was the first to arrive on the scene. Oddly enough I was on the phone with them when it happened. They pulled the pilot from the plane and got him to a hospital fast.

What seems clear is that the MP saved a live that day. Nice job MP.

Did they get the plane out of the water?

Not yet. As soon as the winds subside, Winnipesaukee Marine Construction will be getting it out of the water.
