Lobster Dinner

Any restaurant recommendations for a lobster dinner? Last time we went to Lobster Pound, we were disappointed bc they did not have many options for lobster. We have not been to Weathervane - is it comfortable to sit down? Any other spots convenient to Laconia/Gilford? Thanks!

We are having ours in about 1 hour in the front yard on the lake with some delicious steamers. Yep all 16 of us.:)

Makris seafood in Concord has some good options for lobster.

Agreed, Makris has very good seafood and worth the drive.

If I wanted lobster local I would take the RLW approach: buy them live and toss them into the pot. The only place we get it out is chauncey creek, in the rough (is there any other way) an BYOB.

Market Basket steams lobsters for no extra charge. I think it was $5.99 or $6.99/lb last time I was in there.

Hannaford steams them free of charge as well, but oddly enough they are then subject to the rooms and meals tax because they become 'prepared food.' I discovered this recently and, while I suppose I get the logic, I was a little miffed.

The weathervane serves a decent lobster dinner and the upstairs seating is very comfortable. In my opinion it definitely surpasses the Lobster Pound.

Sandy Point, Alton Bay

I believe that LuvLake is looking for a restaurant with more options than one or two boiled / steamed lobsters.

While I can also be a happy camper doing my own lobsters and steamers, some folks want someone else to do the work.

Sandy Point does have boiled lobsters, baked stuffed, lazy lobster (boiled and taken out of the shell, and lobster casserole. Doing this from memory. May have missed an option or two.

Hope you find a place to your liking, LuvLake. BTW, Sandy Point ain't cheap.

The lobsters, steamers, hamburgers, hot dogs and 3 different types of sausages along with all the different salads and other fixings were fantastic along with great conversation and games. The clean up was quick and easy as many hands made it lite work and everyone was able to part take in lots of laughter.:)

Gee's, I forgot a good part of the meal and that is the sweetest tasting corn that we purchased from our local Hannaford's

Favorite Lobster Spot

Hi all,

Our favorite lobster spot is 405, pub and grill in Laconia. Their baked stuffed lobster is phenomenal. If you are going to Weathervane, go on Thursday when they have their 2 lobster special.

We used to love the lobster at Sandy Point in Alton. That being said we have not been back since it changed hands so I can't say how it is now. Yesterday we took a trip to Ogunquit and the lobster roll at the little foot bridge lobster shack in Perkins Cove is outstanding in quality and value. Also, I love the bake stuffed lobster at Barnacle Billy's in Perkins Cove, it is pricey but it is done right.

We go by boat each August to sandy point with a group . Last year it was excellent and the updated interior was much better. We all have baked stuff king lobster which of course is expensive but always makes two meals Good news is you can go by boat and use their docks if you call ahead. This year we will go again

Yeap, if you want seafood, Maine is the place to go! I get my fix at the Clam Shack. Located at the foot of the bridge in Kennebunkport. Reasonably priced and the best fried clams or oysters in NE. While you are there visit 'Federal Jack', right out back for local brew.

We used to go with a dear departed friend of ours and his significant other at least a couple of times a Summer. We always (he and I) got the King Baked Stuffed and the ladies had something much smaller. He and I would joke between claws and tails, that one of us just had an artery close up!!! MORE BUTER PLEASE!!!:liplick: I need to go again just to toast Carl. I really miss you Buddy.

Well my recommendation is not exactly in the lakes region, but..I am a self confessed lobster aficionado. I'd challenge anyone in the Lakes region to try and beat the lobster roll at Reds in Wiccasset, Maine.
This is the standard by which I judge lobster rolls. Indubitably, the best lobster roll on the planet. :)

Reds is the best. Just plan to get there early or be prepared to wait in a long line. Yum.

Lakepilot 07-08-2014 06:24 AM

I'll third Red's. Last time we went our wait was only 35 minutes. Their Lobster rolls are the very best anywhere.

LuvLake 07-11-2014 06:28 AM

Thanks!

Thank you for all of your suggestions. We ended up at Sandy Point. We were happy that they had a lot of options - at least one person in our party prefers a "lazy man" option. Also, the service was great - very friendly and attentive. It was expensive but we were prepared for that. We usually only do this once per year so that is ok.

Lobster Dinner

NASWA has a nice rest in the Motel Lobby. Food and service has always been great. They have a twin lobster dinner. Cynthia is the Hostess with the Mostest!

The best lobster roll ive had yet is at a little place on rt 3 in holderness right before ashland line. Not sure of the name but its amazing huge and delicous

blacksheep 07-17-2014 01:46 PM

If you're talking about the Riverside Dairy Joy (aka the Dipsy Doodle to those of us who've been around awhile) I conquer! Fabulous lobster rolls, killer fried clams, great burgers, all in a traditional 'dairy bar' atmosphere. Bring the kids and save room for ice-cream. :)
