I know Moultonboro is lower than most surrounding towns, my problem is that it could be half of what it is with a little belt tightening. Despite how the Federal government is cooking the books, we are in a recession, we need a break.

Are they reassessing the town's property this year? Values have likely fallen substantially since the last assessments so you likely will have a higher tax rate on lower average values.

Nice... And not to hijack the thread but for those living in Suissevale I'm hearing water supposed to "go through the roof" also. No more being covered in your dues. So water and taxes...Nice...Double whammy...

DesertDweller 07-21-2014 08:45 AM

Last year's tax rate was 8.69 per thousand so if it goes to 9.00 per thousand that would be a 3.6 percent increase.

Not sure if there was much movement between this year's preliminary assessments and last years values.

values

Checking folks on my street, some appraisals stayed the same, some (including mine) went down a bit. There are some problems with how the town spends its money, but overall, it does a pretty good job (IMHO).

somehow I had over a 30% increase in value this year in Laconia, have to wait until November to request abatement until the sent a new rate, wish the value did jump up that high
how many people, just don't pay attention....

With all due respect I would refrain from posting FALSE rumors without sufficient facts to support this statement. Had you shown up to the annual meeting this past weekend you'd understand the logistics of the water plan. With that being said, the dues will always incorporate the water. Pending you want to know more, I'd encourage you to speak with a board member or show up to a meeting before posting sheer speculation.

The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (PUC) sets water rates based on an analysis of a utility’s earnings. If Suissevale is supposed to get an increase in water rates, then you can find out by going to the NHPUC website and look at the Dockets for tariff increases.

DesertDweller 07-21-2014 11:16 AM

My assessment was pretty consistent with last year as well. Also, I was part of the group that got the full inspection (inside and out).

Scott's Yott 07-21-2014 11:36 AM

If your tax rate is 9$ per thousand, are you at 100% evaluation or something else......I pay 25$ per thous.at 100% eval in southern nh........Sounds like i need to move to mboro

tis 07-21-2014 01:03 PM

I am pretty sure all of NH is supposed to be at 100% valuation. Moultonboro's taxes are low. When is the move, Scott?

jeffk 07-21-2014 03:43 PM

My valuation dropped .4%. If rates increase by 3.6%, that is hardly a disaster.

Of course, given current economic conditions would I prefer them to freeze spending? Sure!

But that would be like expecting to win the lottery. Goobermint is NOT that sensible.

CAVU 07-21-2014 06:01 PM

My value went from 179,000 to 230,400.. That's $52,600 more than last year. My house assessment didn't change but, the land went from $37,500 to $90,100. Its .25ac lot. I don't get it.. I've done nothing to improve my property and everyone else a 0.25ac lot is assessed at around 90k. Are they really tax it on that full amount?

DesertDweller 07-21-2014 06:21 PM

A quarter acre lot assessed at $90,100? Where are you at? Assume this is non waterfront right?

No, on the 109 side of the hill. No views either. Every .25ac lot is assesed at around 90K. The 0.75ac with house next door to me is assessed at $110,500k.. So go figure

tis 07-21-2014 06:47 PM

Then you should take those figures to the town and show them. If they are wrong they should change it for you. They DO make mistakes. Be specific though. Show them the lots you are telling us about and what they are assessed as. Compare apples to apples.

Shreddy thanks for your concern but I do understand the logistics of the water plan. I've read my copy of the "Suissevale Water Handout Rev 6."
