Power on Rattlesnake

Made it out to Rattlesnake in the rain and the darkness to find no power. Spoke to NHEC and they said they would send out a crew in the morning. It's dark out here!

Island Girl 10-16-2014 11:05 PM

Thanks for telling them

I noticed my webcam went out this afternoon. My internal devices also not responding so I assume no power. It is tough when few people are on the island. I assume the power is out and would call NHEC. But it could be the DSL line!

Again, thanks for reporting the outage.

The power is still out.

NHEC called me back last night and said they would of send anyone out until this morning. I have walked about a half mile of line and saw no damage. My neighbors meters are also blank so I know it's not an isolated outage. Hope they get it fixed soon or we will be melting our frozen food.

Broken Glass 10-17-2014 03:40 PM

Power is back on!!

Thank you NHEC

Looks like it could be out again, I noticed snake eyes and my drop cam are both out.

Power out

The NHEC outage map shows the western end of Rattlesnake without power. But that is their only outage in the state. Interestingly, the Home page says there are no outages, but if you click on the outage map it shows Alton with an outage on Rattlesnake.

Webbsatwinni 10-23-2014 10:15 AM

I noticed that too, I am going to report it as well. Does anyone know what the issue was last time?

Island Girl 10-23-2014 12:09 PM

Did you report the outage?

Is anyone still on the island?

Webbsatwinni 10-23-2014 12:16 PM

I guess I am, I haven't closed due to work schedules. I won't be able to until Halloween weekend and it will be chilly!

rick35 10-23-2014 12:21 PM

Hope it doesn't snow! That what happened to us during that Halloween storm. Was it three years ago?

I think it was, we snowmobiled around the yard in CT and then it was gone. I hope not but it's the risk I took this year.

IslandRadio 10-23-2014 02:55 PM

It's out at our place which is on the Peninsula (aka, the thumb).

Went out at around 5:28 in the morning. The IslandRadio cam stopped responding at that time.

Wonder if it's going to be a winter of outages?

Broken Glass 10-23-2014 03:31 PM

still out

just arrived on Rattlesnake ... power still out mid way between the thumb and the west end ..... 2nd Thursday in a row ... bummer!

I certainly hope not. The winter before last saw an extended outage and our bubbler stopped working. The ice made short work of our newly installed crib dock, popping the deck off of it like the lid on a can of paint.

Thank God fore generators

Called NHEC and the recording says the only two places left without power are Cow Island and Rattlesnake Island. Generator is humming along....
Looks like we may get power back by mid day Friday. I don't think my generator is bothering anyone because there is no one out here on his end of the island........ and I would not trade it for the world!!

If there is an extended power outage and you are unable to get to Rattlesnake don't you risk having your generator burning out? My understanding is you need to add oil after a generator runs a couple of days.

Rusty 10-24-2014 06:40 AM

My Generator has a low oil sensor on it and will shut the engine down if the oil gets too low.

That's OK for me because I never run mine unless I am there to monitor it and can add oil if it shuts down.

Webbsatwinni 10-24-2014 08:07 AM

I just checked the NHEC site and the alerts on Rattlesnake are cleared but all of the cams are still down so I assume it is still out. I am trying to get through to NHEC now.

Power still out

I am on the island and the power is still out. I would never leave a generator unattended on the island. Most generators have a low oil sensor and they will not start or run unless the oil quantity is sufficient. I am new to the island, and I was not planning on setting up a generator out here. I figured if the power was out for a long period we would jsut go home. Let me tell you it is very dark out here on a stormy night without power. Generac is my new friend!

Sometimes the low oil sensor will go bad and the engine won't start. If you follow the line to the sensor you can un-attach the wire so that it will run. Then make sure to get a new sensor when you have time.

The Generac sensor looks like this:
