Melvin Village Info Needed

Our family just rented a house on the lake in Melvin Village for the month of August 2015. We have been coming to the lake for many many years but have always rented in Meredith or Moultonborough. We're relatively new to the Melvin Village area and would like some info on the area.

Where is the closest large grocery store, farm stands for fresh vegetables, fun places to explore by car or boat?

Thanks

Define "closest"...on that side of the lake, life is a bit slower. Your closest "large" grocery store is probably Wolfeboro, or perhaps even Ossipie. But I'm sure someone with more local knowledge can correct me.

In any event, depending on what you are looking for, life on the lake in the Melvin Village area can be wonderful. But not if you are looking for shopping, commerce, tourist activities, etc.

Be sure to use a chart when boating

The northwest side of the lake has lots of interesting places to explore by boat; Greens Basin and Lees Pond to name a couple. Be sure to carefully refer to your chart, especially through the Graveyard.

Abenaki Tower is nice for a very short hike with a broad view from the top.

The Libby Museum and the New Hampshire Boat Museum good for a couple of hours each on a rainy day.

A climb to the top of Bald Knob and/or Mt Shaw offers breathtaking views of the lake on a clear day!!

Biggest close, grocery store would likely be the Ossipee Hannaford. There is a smaller store in Wolfeboro (but allows you to shop by boat!)

Melvin Village info needed

VitaBene is right about the grocery stores, but, for meat you will find the Mill Street Meat Market in Wolfeboro to be very complete. The staff will be very helpful, and the product choice is great.

There is a farmer's market in Wolfeboro during the week in the summer. I forget what day but that will take care of your desire for fresh vegetables.

The Pine Cone is a good place for drinks and pizza. It is just outside of downtown Melvin Village.
