I would suggest, The Islands of Lake Winnipesaukee. A beautiful coffee table book.

Bruce Heald/Lake Winnepeasukee

Bruce Heald has written many historical books on New Hampshire. His book "Lake Winnipesaukee" contains much more than just pictures. It is a wonderful history of the lake that really goes into detail about the Native American tribes that lived there long ago, to the early settlers and on up through the end of the 20th century. Here it is available at Amazon and they even have a signed copy in the used section. Happy shopping and Happy Holidays.

"The Gunstock Parish - A History oF Gilford" by Adair Mulligan is a very fine history book published by the Thompson-Ames Historical Society with lots of historical pictures.

The Islands of Winnipesaukee is a GREAT coffeetable book! Hungry For Summer is a collection of recipes from the island residents! Both are wonderful books!

Lake Stories for Children

Andy Opel has 2 great books for young children...perfect for grandparents to read to little ones at the lake:

The Witches - A Winnipesaukee Adventure

The Weirs - A Winnipesaukee Adventure

Both are available on Amazon.

And I have heard from two bookstores that Andy Opel has written another Winnipesaukee children's book that will be out this spring. The title is being kept a secret!

Gunstock Parish & Another Nice Book

I agree with McDude, The Gunstock Parish is a fantastic book! It can be purchased for a much more reasonable price at the Thompson Ames Historical Societyin Gilford though.

Another nice coffee table type book is The Lakes Region of New Hampshire.

Yes, Karel Hayes and I have a new book coming out next summer. We are still working on the title, though I can tell you that the book goes back in time and tells a story about the old lake - and of course the grandmother plays a central role!

I'll post a sneak peak at some of the pencil sketches later this month!

Thanks for sharing the books! - Andy
