Outstanding!

CentHarb_Ray 01-22-2015 03:05 PM

Beautiful picture!

I moved to Center Harbor last August from Nashua and was amazed at the star cover. Reminded me of when I was a kid.

Just, gorgeous!

Question

Neat picture! How long of an exposure did you use? I see a streak that could be an airplane, meteor, satellite [or UFO], depending on how long the "shutter" was open. Hmm, now that I think about it, is a "time exposure" even possible with a digital image? I guess I'll amend my question to "what kind of camera did you use and what were the settings?" Regardless, thanks for posting; I never get to see more than a couple of bright stars here in urban Ohio.

It's the milky wy alright,

Don,

All I see is a big white box where the photo should be.

...but then I clicked on the bottom of the picture and it opened up in Instagram...where the typed words are.

Good luck

Thanks

Thanks Up's

Didn't realize the words were a link.

It is a nice picture.

Being able to see the Milky Way is one of my favorite things about being at the lake. You can never see it in the southern part of the state due to all the light pollution. I tried taking some star photos this past summer but it was a failure. Seeing this photo is inspiring me to try again next summer. I sold my f1.4 lens but I should be able to get something decent at f2.8 and a longer exposure.

Very, very nice photo!

Airedale1 01-24-2015 11:07 AM

Very nice!

Don't feel lonely, ToW...

I must have clicked on the camera icon in the center a dozen times in three or four visits to the thread before I tried the words...

Do not feel alone, my friend ;)

I did some digging into the instagram account where it was posted and i think a motor drive was used to get the time exposure. Very cool but a bit too expensive for me.

I can't see a picture, even when I click on the text below it. I don't have an instagram account, so maybe that's why.

Here's a Milky Way shot I took over Newfound Lake last September

SIKSUKR 01-29-2015 03:12 PM

Being a lover of sky watching, I'm surprised I've never seen this view of the Milky Way. Is that looking towards the west?

znh 01-29-2015 03:16 PM

We see it all the time. We're in Gliford near Ellacoya, if I'm looking North across the broads it is always up and to the East a bit going perpendicular to the lake...if that makes sense :)

Never thought about trying to snap some pictures of it...will have to try this summer...

19MileBaylover 01-29-2015 09:17 PM

Love those pictures all of you have posted of the milky way over the lakes region. Many evening in September and October I walk out on the dock to see the stars, and especially the milky way. Occasionally I get to spot some satellites and even the space station passing overhead. Used to really enjoy it when the shuttle was part of the view. Perhaps this link will help some of you track it over the lake. http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/
The stars, the planets, the milky way, the shooting stars and the satellites -- and the loons singing -- doesn't get any better.

SIKSUKR 02-03-2015 12:20 PM

I was thinking west- NW cuz it looks like the sun setting.
