Meredith geese
What happened to all the geese in Meredith that have made pests of themselves the last few years? Am I jumping the gun, or do they seem to be missing? Just wondering if there was some sort of intervention??

Just watched my neighbor terrorize two adult and 4 baby geese with his jet ski. I get that the geese can be a nuisance but this particular group was just swimming by and he chased them and then did donuts around the babies to try to drown them.
The very best of humanity in display there. Jerk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Fines
Isn't there a fine for harassing wildlife? I think so.

After putting up this simple net the geese have been non existent on our property. There is a group of around FIFTY geese that hang around our cove. They come right up to our shore front then realize the babies can't get on the grass because of the net. The net is easily rolled up each morning.
If geese come on or near your property you CAN harass them. |
No, you can't. I called around to ask and it is a federal offense to harass migratory birds. You can let your dog bark at them to scare them off - or use other loud noises - but that's about all you can legally do besides preventative measures like fencing.

It's the law
I thought there was a fine for harassing wildlife. So it is a federal offense at that? I am reminded of a similar incident which happened a couple winters ago when someone was charged for chasing moose with his snowmobile. There was a lot about it on the papers at the time. Is the law different for geese? I don't think so.

Driving close to chicks with a PWC, firing paintball pellets, allowing dogs to attack, anything that causes harm or injury, is what you are restricted from doing. |
