Our Town Energy Alliance

Does anyone know the 2015-2016 price for home heating oil from this Alliance? Thank you!

We use their rack pricing program instead of their program rate. It was great last season.

Last weeks price through Eastern was $1.74 if paid net 10.

Thanks Codeman - Are you able to tell me how many gallons I need to purchase to get that price?

The rack rate deal is not dependent on usage as it is not a prebuy situation.

You can go to the otchoice website, hit program info, then eastern (or your local provider) under the rack rate pricing. Eastern is local for us, if they are not for you the deal may not be as good.

For some reason it looks like it jumped $0.20 since Thursday.

During last week's financial ups and downs, one of the reasons given for the fall was low oil prices. One of the side effects of this instability was said to be slight, temporary increase in fuel prices. Seems to be stabilizing.

Anyone have information on propane pricing? We called about locking in pricing for the winter and the rate they quoted was about the same as last year. Given the huge decline in pricing/excess inventory not sure that makes much sense to me.

Here is the price list that Ourtown put out in July. The note said it was 50 cents per gallon less than last year

Oil/Propane Pricing

Thanks for the Alliance pricing information. Just what we needed to lock in for the upcoming winter.

How does it work if I wanted to switch to another provider (which would be Eastern in my case). I have a 1,000 gallon underground tank that is essentially full now (somewhere between 700 and 800 gallons) and is leased.

Would Eastern have to buy the tank from the existing provider and then service it from that point forward or would they need to put a new tank in? The house is only about 8 years old so I assume the tank would be good to go for a while.

Also, how does it work with Our Town Energy Alliance? Do you join first and then call Eastern or the other way around?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Our Town Energy

Desert Dweller:

I was in a similar situation this Spring with a newer house and a leased 500 gallon underground tank (no charge for tank lease). My supplier was not Eastern. I joined Our Town ($25.00) and got their 2015-2016 prices. If I were to use Eastern, they would have to buy the tank from my supplier (not a sure thing as I understand it) and then Eastern would charge me something like $175.00 per year to rent the tank. I think it was more for a 1,000 gallon tank. Using the price information from Our Town, I was able to negotiate a fixed price for propane from my existing supplier which was slightly less than the rate quoted by Eastern when the fee for the tank rental was factored in.

Greatly appreciate the suggestion. The same thought crossed my mind but I wasn't sure if negotiating the rates was a possibility. Have no issues with the current provider other than the fixed price they have quoted is way too high (especially in light of the pricing sheet posted). Will try it and see what happens. Thanks again.

I just told my supplier that if they did not come very close to Eastern, I was going to switch and that I had the Eastern numbers in front of me. That was in mid May, 2015. You might want to check and see if Our Town still has availability for new members using Eastern so that your statement to your current supplier has some credibility. Within 30 minutes of my phone conversation, we had agreed on a price. I do not think most suppliers want to lose customers. I really did not want to go through the hassle of switching, so it worked out.

Alliance

Irving is our supplier but no longer involved with Our Town Alliance. However, when we called to ask them to match the Alliance price - for oil and propane - they actually came in lower.
