Engine Hours 2015
 

I haven't done this for the past few years ......

Put the boat away on Saturday and logged in a total of 105 hours for the 2015 Season

Now THAT's some serious boating !!

Just under 100 for me, and a personal record. We hit Winni dozens of times including several overnight trips, boated on lakes in Maine, spent 5 days on the Saint Lawrence River/Lake Ontario which allowed us to motor into Canada for the first time, and did a lovely day trip from Rye to Portland and back. Best Summer ever.

May 1st to October 1st I hit just about 126 hours just on Winnisquam. Are they still doing the gas tax reimbursement thing? I have quite a few receipts...

For just one boat, or all of them?

I am at 135, hope to get out a few more times this year.

100 plus hours a year is like Florida boating. Good for you!

I live 5 minutes from MVYC and we fish a lot. It's really not that hard. Last year I was at 230 hours...my daughter got married this past August and that was a VERY WORTHWHILE boating limiting event.

yes they are still doing the gas tax refund program. It Is now 22 cents a gal.

Man, I thought I was doing well at 65 hours. However, if you added up the float time on the hook, I could triple that number.

Put over 100 hours on my Bennington this year Fla/NH but also bought (for the first time) a couple of used 2002 SeaDoo jet ski's.
Amazed that they both had less than 100 hours after 13 years of use.......7.6 hours per year.They are both in pristine condition and we used them all summer but had to feel bad that the previous
owners didn't get to enjoy them much.

NOPE --- hook time doesn't count .... if it did, we'd all be able to (at minimum) triple it !! :D

Yea float time doesn't count. I actually always have the boat shut off when we are not actually moving. I try to keep the hours down for resale but when you live on the lake even going out for an hour or two after work a day adds up really fast!

22 cents a gallon!? eeh at least ill get a free fill up next season. I only used 463.53 Gallons this year compared to 600 last year. I track the hours and gas pretty diligently since I am what they call a "nerd." Overall it cost me $12.25/hr or 3.6 gallons/hour to run my boat. :)

I never checked the hours on my engine before or after the season, so this post is of no value.

60 for me, all on Winni. Usually do 50 - 75 and thought that was alot considering I see many boats that never leave the slip but now realize a few on this site are doing alot more. However, I think the majority of boat owners do alot less than 50. This is a very small sample size when compared to how many boat owners there are out there.

I only use the 115 for maybe 15 minutes a few times a day. Minnkota is burning electricity for hours and hours and hours.

We'd average 85 hours over 15 years living on Paugus Bay. Sometimes friends would come up to spend some time and bring their boats. We had our favorite spots to swim and such, that covered most of the Lake, ( not all ) but most...

Unfortunately our boat was laid up for almost 4 weeks with an engine problem so not as many hours this year as most - all good now though and still hoping to get a few more hours in before November

I was well under 10 hours this year. If not for a week on Long Lake in Maine, it would have been around 2 hours. For whatever reason, time (lack of) was a huge problem for me this year. It was a good year, but extremely busy. Oh well, there is always next year.

My total was 53 this season, just slightly less than last year. And almost all of them with my two best friends! (that would be my wife and Sadie (see below) Already can't wait for next year...

That's just cruel Slick !

Approx 50 hours for us but as mentioned, many many more hours of "cove" time swimming, listening to music and enjoying family and friends.
We do know how to have fun!!

I had a major engine problem this summer but because of the fantastic service at Dave's we didn't lose a single weekend. Dropped the boat off on a Sunday night and a complete valve job was was done by Thursday morning.

The Eastern will be hauled up tomorrow, had a very nice ride over the weekend and did a final check on the camp. Our boating season was April 22 to Oct 26, not the longest for us but not bad. As always we beat ice out by a day or two. Overall a pretty nice year.

We put 44 hours on the Slickcraft 'till Aug 25th and then 30 hours on the Eastern for a total of 74.

Now if only we could get a late March ice out in 2016!

Ethanol related? The 6.2 MPI in my boat had the top end done due to ethanol, from what I was told, before I bought it.

My wife and I put 61 hours on the Fantasia this year. With all expenses (slip, ins.,fuel,reg.,oil change and drive oil, etc.) the boat cost us about $ 53.00 per hour of fun and memories. Its well worth the money!

You forgot to amortize the Beer & snacks into the equation :D

I don't think we put much more than 10-15 engine hours on the boat... did get to spend some time at anchor or drifting. Hoping next year to significantly increase the hours. Upthesaukee Too is sitting in our front yard, waiting for spring.

Two Hours a Day, 130 Days of Spring and Summer...
 

I'll speak up, although I'm not "eligible". :o Some of us don't have "run-meters" to determine our exact hours on the lake.

Sail-powered watercraft can spend many-more hours out on the lake, taking in the Lakes Region's mountain scenery at a relaxing and peaceful rate of absorption.

Sailing is more like 4-dimension TV, where the boat and the environment both are moving with respect to one another, but do so in near-silence.

When I happen to sail by anchored boaters, they'll often say, "You sure look relaxed".

Great summer
 

Started out with our 22' Chaparral and put about 50 hours on that. In July we bought a 26' SeaRay and put another 60+ hours on that. :D Oh yes and we also managed to find time to get married! all in all a great summer!

Thanks Jidge! When I figure it that way I spent $211.32 an hour. I should sell it, that's outrageous!!! Of course that does not figure in all the hours at anchor, at the sand bars with friends having a great time.

Trolling hours sure do count. It is all time on the lake. Just like a relaxing putt putt cruise. .. it's all good!

We bought our boat very late in the season
 

(mid September) so we only got out 8 times for a total of 13.3 engine hours.

I'm sure that will be much higher next year :D

Wow Taz, That has to include boat loan payment which I don't have on my 96 Chaparral. Either that or you have that 50' orange off shore boat we heard about doing about a 80 mph across the Broads

Actually Dave claims it was a pretty common to have valve problems in the 90's with the 5.7 Mercruisers. I read quite a bit of info on line about it as well.

Twice a weekend all summer:). Sometimes more. I have to admit that there were a couple days with no wind so we motored for a couple hrs. But, I only had to put in 7gal of diesle fuel to top off the tank. I'm not in a hurry to go anywhere so sailing is fine with me.

I wish it more, 25 total for the season. Just finished the minor PM before it is up to Dave's for the winter nap. Many hours at anchor enjoying the lake and its inherent beauty. The day tripper from Bahstun planning on an earlier start next year!

Is this time on the lake, or time on your engines?

Many people run the engines to get to a spot on the lake, and then spend hours at that spot without the engine running. So engine hours only shows the amount of time moving on the lake.

I have 30 more hours on my generator than on my engines. On hot days, I run the generator when away from the dock to keep the cockpit refidge running and cold (and the ice maker running).

How many sailboats never run their engines?
How many boats don't even have an hour meter, or if they do, perhaps they rarely look at the hour meter? I had to wait until I got my maintenance records together to look at my engine hours and calculate how many hours over last year. Plus I have twin engines, do I get a double count in the engine hours category over those with a single engine? ;) Or triple, since I can also include generator time?

As mentioned numerous times above, if it were time "on the Lake" 99% of us could triple (even quadruple) the hours.

Engine running but fishing should be a category! I know that's not realistic... but if you fish it's very easy to put 10-15 per week in the April/May/June timeframe trolling (engine running). I finished this year at 145 hours, I would guess 60-70 hours was trolling.

im not sure what g nautique is mine is a 20ft ski nautique i use for skiing thru the ski course in back bay

Gs are the newer G21 G23 and G25 wakeboard/surf boats. Been looking to see how one really does for wakesports but they're scarce around here.

i would guess they are a bit expencive macallums boat house is the local dealer for nautique in this area they are located in northwoods on northwood lake

Yes definitely out of my price range. I went by macallums last spring when I was purchasing a boat and was nowhere near ready to hand over the 180k they go for!

35 Hours!
 

This is my first year on Winnie with my new boat. Mostly boated on week days with my wife. We wanted to take it slow and we made it all around the lake exploring all the major routes etc. We were at Minge Cove last year (dry slip) but moved to MVYC and valet service! We hope to put on more hours next year! :cool:
