TV controls

I have 4 different controls for my tv. I have recently installed another internet box that has its own control. It is now so confusing that it takes me 10 minutes to figure out how to turn all the power on and get the picture on the screen.
I am looking to upgrade my tv and want to get someone to combine controls into just one unit. Does anyone know of a company or someone who can help me figure this mess out?

My co worker has this and likes it a lot. Not cheap though.

I can second Harmony remotes. I have 2 of these and they work great. Have multiple devices (DVD, Apple TV and Amazon Prime, plus cable and over the air HD) and they are easy to program for various activities and devices.

Jerry at Lakes Region Home Theater did a full install plus universal remote programming. Very satisfied. http://www.lakewinnitv.com/index.html

Also have a Harmony 650; works great. You download the "My Harmony" app for your home computer and set-up an account. You input the brand & model # for each device. You also need the list of which port is used on each device for each activity such as "watch cable TV" and which device changes channels and which controls the volume. A bit of one time work but then all is stored on line.

Then with he remote plugged in via USB cable you answer questions for each device and each activity. Then save. Later if you add a device it is just an add on to the saved data.

Button Blocker

1 Attachment(s)
A little off topic, but a client of mine developed a product called the BUTTON BLOCKER, which hides buttons on the remote control. Great for kids or adults who are frustrated by pressing the wrong button.

Or, if you have a recent smartphone with the right capabilites, it can be used as a smart remote.

I use AnyMote on my Samsung Galaxy 5 and it works great. http://colortiger.com/

It would be nice to see tv clickers go extinct ....... i.e. disappear from the local scene just like the payphone has disappeared. Used to be ....many many years ago....one had to get up off the couch, or up and out of the recliner...to change the tv channel.....and the people of the United States were much healthier and less fat, in better physical shape....due to the exercise from getting up to change the channel.

Wouldn't it be nice for this country to return to those pre-clicker days and just totally eliminate the clicker so's everyone would have to get up to change the channel without having a remote to click.

Some one presidential candidate should make that a big part of his or her campaign.......you know......Vote for me, and there will be no clickers!

Seems like Bernie Sanders out of all the candidates could be a potential for this issue? Like, why do we really need clickers, ladies and gentlemen? Aren't we good enough to go change the channel without a clicker!

The Donald would say something like 'that's crazy, just fuhgetaboutit! If you don't want a clicker, then you will be shipped back to where you came from......permanently......and very fast!

Hillary would support a clicker for everyone in the room....multiple clickers....and a monthly clicker tax to give a clicker to the homeless.

Ben Carson would be un-opinionated at this time and need some more time to reflect on this clicker issue.

And, Joe Biden would say; not my problem....go do whatever you want to do yourself with the clicker!

And, Mitt Romney could not be located to get a reply?

Of course one didn't need a remote cuz before cable we only got 3 channels.

...... the no clicker challenge!

Just for the heck of it, I chose to not use the tv clicker for the last week, and now get up and push the buttons tucked away on the back side of my tv. You know, I really feel like I'm accomplishing something here; my vital stats; blood pressure, chloresterol, and body mass index are all doing better ..... so's how about that!

Maybe you too want to do away with your clicker by hiding it in the freezer, behind the ice cream or somewhere .... at least for a temporary two week trial run? It could improve your health?

The first cable receiver I had did not have any remote.
You had to get up and push in a button to change the channel.

Yup. I had a slider box but I extended the cable and ran it next to the couch. I had a tv in my bedroom with push buttons that didn't need a box but it was not a remote control. I used a pool cue with my foot as a bridge and pushed the channels up and down. That was way more difficult than the slider box.

Voice response

Voice recognition is getting pretty good now, so why can't we throw out our remotes and just talk to our entertainment center? Every component I have seems to have one function that requires that remote stick around. If there was a device where I could say "turn on the Patriots" or "turn down the volume" or "fast forward through the commercials", I'd be first in line to buy it.

Not all that you wish for but Apple TY with Siri remote is a step in that direction.

When I was kid we had a console TV with that set up-no remote and digital buttons. I used to lay on the floor and change the channels with my toes. I got pretty good at it...then I grew up. Man, I guess I was lazy!
