Valet service

Looking for advice and comments on valet service. New to boating we have a 20' pontoon boat and not really sure if this is a good idea and looking for your advice.

I have had valet service at Meredith Marina for 10 years. Very pleased with them. Have seen them valet pontoons.

thinkxingu 03-13-2016 05:15 PM

If I came to the lake to boat, I'd be all over valet. If I owned a place on the lake, I'd do my darnedest to find a slip.

Wouldn't your "place on the lake" have a dock out front that you could keep your boat at? :)

Not necessarily--association; walking distance to docks; or place close enough to boat at night, when marinas can't guarantee a place to come back to (where we valeted our boat a few years ago only had a few overnight slips--taking the boat out after hours was difficult).

You should be looking at about $1800 per year for valet service. If you need winter storage that will be another $400-$600. At this point you're within a grand of the price of a rental slip which includes winter storage. If you boat often, and live close consider the slip.

Valet

I've not found one marina so far that will even valet a pontoon boat because they are afraid to damage the pontoons or thier racks are not set up for it.

thinkxingu 03-14-2016 12:20 PM

Trexler's will, but they much prefer to find you a slip at the club next door.

What is store and launch? Is that where you do all the launching/retrieving and just keep the boat/trailer in their lot?

Yes exactly

That's weird--they valeted my pontoon last year. Although that was a dual toon--do you have a triple? They did say, though, that they much preferred a slip, so maybe they decided to stop valeting pontoons.

No double toon maybe they are not excepting new valet pontoons?

LIforrelaxin 03-14-2016 01:35 PM

You could see if Harilla's Landing Yacht club as any rack spots for Rent... Unfortunately its on the other side of the lake, and may not be convenient for you.

At the end of the day, Pontoon boats are not the easiest boats to do Valet with, as they are prone to being easily damaged. Hence why you are finding most Marina's will not offer up the service.

How big is your pontoon boat? have you considered a wet slip?.... as long as the Pontoon boats is not that long, often you can get into shallow wet slips that other boaters don't want, and thus you can get a good price... however they are often restrictive on length...

We've considered a wet slip i'd be open to a shallow one also if it saves money but again I've had no luck finding a slip either LOL!! UGH! do you have any suggestions on the shallow slip?

Just heard back from Meredith Marina anyone have any dealings with them? They said they launch the boat from the trailer which i like the idea off.

Phantom 03-14-2016 03:56 PM

Meredith Marina sounds like a long drive to go boating to me .... but that's me, you know your usage.

Ever try Mountain View ? Wetslip, and won't be cheap, that I assure you!!

They also have Valet (little known) but I think you'll find the same issue -- no Toon's
.

We've had our boat in valet with Shep Brown's for 2 seasons and returning for a third this year. Outstanding ownership, valet and service department.

Phantom what is it like boating that far north on the lake?

thinkxingu 03-14-2016 04:19 PM

Meredith gets really busy (boat and car traffic), so I'm not sure I'd be jazzed to valet there.

We're one cove away from the end of the lake in the north, and, though I initially thought we wouldn't like it, we've come to appreciate the slower pace.

So you are in the same area as Meredith marina?

thinkxingu 03-14-2016 04:42 PM

No--when I say north I mean past Moultonborough Bay, which has us going through Meredith every Friday afternoon and Sunday night and, for the most part, avoiding Saturdays.

I've never seen MVYC valet a toon. Also heard there is a waiting list 2 dozen deep for a boat slip there. I envision rent prices going up based on the demand and more people buying slips.

Have you checked Ambrose Cove Marina - not sure what they have to offer, if anything. Not even sure if they are still in business.

Woodguy53 03-14-2016 09:10 PM

Older but has slips specifically for pontoons

Don't know if it's an option for you or not. Parkers in the south end of Alton bay has rebuilt some slips so they are a bit larger to give pontoons more room. They were not full last year. Older place but we can get there quicker than further up the lake, it's reasonably priced, and meets our needs

Lakeboater 03-14-2016 09:14 PM

Andrew's marine

You might want to check with Andrew's Marine in Minge Cove. I think they valet and it is a pretty good spot.

Rattletrap 03-15-2016 10:03 AM

Parker Marina

Looks like the ONLY slip I could find was Parker's Marina thoughts? You can PM me if you'd like thanks

The issue there is clearance under the bridge in high water. You might not have a problem with the toon.

Channel Marine has several toons in their valet program

tummyman 03-16-2016 08:57 PM

Check out the classified ads on this blog....a few slips for rent. May be an option..........

glastron guy 03-19-2016 03:11 PM

I have been with Meredith Marina for four years now doing valet. I have a 26ft Rinker and cannot say enough about them. I call them an hour before I get there and it is in the water ready to go. Super people to deal with and very nice.
