Small Cooler Options for the Boat
 

All this talk about insulated cups has me looking at my decade-old 17 quart Playmate cooler. I'd like something a little larger and better at keeping cold, but don't wanna spend what Yeti or even RTIC are asking ($125+). Needs to be easy to carry.

I have had several of these coolers over the years. Once your drinks are cold they will hold ice for a couple/few days. Plenty of room for a case of beer and 2 bags of ice. Still light enough to carry without breaking your back. 2 cup holders on top. I think they are even a bit cheaper at walmart.

I have many coolers and for the budget priced versions none of them hold ice better than the Coleman Xtreme. Not sure what the difference is because I have two that look exactly alike and the xtreme is definitely better despite being no thicker and no heavier.

I had a couple of igloo cubes that I got from Costco or sams and they were crap. Melting out in a few hours.

Polarbear coolers
 

A few years ago I got a soft cooler for my boat by Polarbear Coolers. I got a rather large one however they make some smaller ones.
I have to say, it holds ice longer than any standard Igloo or Coleman I ever had and it compresses into smaller space when needed. It's also nice on the boat because it does not slide or bang around. It was not inexpensive but then again, almost nothing good is!

I'm going to sound like FLL for a moment, but for $11 this thing is great! In the end, we realized we only needed a good enough cooler to last one whole day. This does so--at the end of 10-hour days on the boat, there is very little melted ice (10% maybe?). Of course, it is tucked behind my captain's chair (mostly in shade) and rarely opened, but matched with some $7 Ozark Trail insulated cups (those things ROCK), we get a whole day of freezing cold food and beverages.

We have the same cooler on the toon, even after a day or two in the garage any "leftovers" are still in cold water. The wheels and the foldable handle makes it easy to manage.
