Island Disappears On Lake Winnisquam
Anyone know what happened to this little island on Lake Winnisquam. A few days ago it was there and now it is gone!!
Completely disappeared. http://i64.tinypic.com/8yv02q_th.jpg South of Pot Island and West of the two little islands called (Hog Island) Surrounded by about 120 feet of water. http://oi64.tinypic.com/s324xs.jpg https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=e...key=yyuhGnmlsL Obviously a light hearted post title and error on this mapping application, but was wondering if anyone has ever spotted other ones like this error in other places in the lakes region on these web-applications or errors the other way around where a land mass that should show up is missing at normal water levels. I don't have this software on any of my boats so I do not know if it is something odd that just shows up on the web and works properly on the water. Anyone use this software and see this missing island on the water? Was not sure where to post it, figured folks that like playing around with navigation software would find it interesting. |
That is truly amazing. At least it isn't the other way around, where it doesn't mark an island that is really there.

I'm sure that the assessor in Sanbornton is doing a complete investigation.
No local government agency would ever want lose property tax revenues by having one of there island properties disappear. :D At first I thought is was a speck of dust on my screen, but when I zoomed in it was always there. |
At first I was like wait, I just drove by it yesterday!?!

Wow, I never realized Winnisquam was so deep!

Have the Feds contact the Chinese, they will rebuild it and put a base there. More tourist traffic !!

Illicit dredging of public waters by people who thought it was a navigational hazard. They were sick of having to mark it with a milk jug every year. We'll need to have a written complaint before we can take action on it.

Navionics also shows Gilford Beach is in the vicinity of The Witches. :)

Just saying . . .
The folks at Navionics are very nice and helpful too! I once reported a problem on one of their software charts, but didn't expect them to care much about our Lake, but they got it researched and fixed within about a month or two. I was impressed! If you see it on their website app, then it will probably be on their current software charts for on board chart plotters if you have an updated copy. I don't know if it's still true, but they were using Bizer as a data source for their Winnipesaukee chart at the time. |
