Kitchen
I have a Taylor Digital Kitchen Scale that I've been using for maybe three years. Model 3865BL-66.
http://taylor-enviro.com/kitchen/foo...hen-scale.html GLASS Top. You can't get any easier to keep it clean. It uses a little button battery that I just replaced for the first time. The repeat-ability of this scale is flawless. Put the same piece of chicken on it and it will give the same reading..over and over. I use the Ounces setting. ..to the nearest tenth of an ounce. It also can be configured to read in grams. EDIT: I am a Cheapscate..:) but will PAY for excellent quality. I would pay $60 bucks for this scale. :D NB The Best Part is..I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% OFF card for $15 bucks. Can't go wrong for $15 bucks. :) NB |
You're starting to sound like FLL. Lol.

Not sure if you can get this Scale at Wally Mart..:look: :look:.. NB |
Haha. But seriously, I must be doing something wrong in the kitchen. I never use a scale.

I'm not a chef but I have never used a scale in the kitchen. Same for measuring salt, pepper etc. The palm of my hand does the measuring just fine.
My eye says if it looks good it must be right. |
I always use a scale when making burgers from a bulk ground beef purchase. I like 1/2 lb. burgers my wife prefers 1/4 pounders.

My wife and I are over 70 and we eat Less than we used to. Why cook a Mega Burger and throw away the uneaten remains afterward. The weight of the burger from the store..is about 2/3#. I divide it in half with the scale. :) NB |
A scale is useful for bread making where there is a little less wiggle room than in most cooking as more dependence on flour: liquid ratio. Weighing is more accurate and makes for better reproducibility. It is also quicker than measuring cups and the like. Most scales have a zero tare adjustment to simplify things.
In most other cooking I just wing it.. |
We have an "Eat Smart" unit. My wife got it a few years back when she was on Weight Watchers. I t works well and I've never changed the battery. I really only use it now for doing the burgers from bulk like Pineneedles. It tares automatically when you turn it on with a plate on it and is handy to keep all the burgers the same.
