Bad news, good news...
The bad news is that I calculated my gas tax refund the other night and mailed it in today. I burned almost 3 times as much fuel with my new to me boat as I burned last year in my older/smaller boat.
But the good news is that means we used our new boat at least twice as much as the old boat! It's been worth every dime and we couldn't be happier with our H260! |
Filled out the form tonight (thanks for the link!)
I get a whopping $15.36 back....that's if they don't deny the slips with no cc receipt attached... Whatever...it's worth a try! The gas attendants where I buy my gas are lacking a bit on the info they write on my gas receipts...we'll see. |

Many fill ups...
I burned quite a bit of gas last year and have too many fill ups to fit on one form.... what's the practice? Fill out a second form? Include a separate sheet of paper detailing the fill ups?

I purchase my gas for my Seadoo at gas stations off the lake. I send those receipts in along with my pontoon gas boat receipts from marina's and I receive a tax refund for all the receipts.
|
Additional Off-Road Uses
I think think that receipts for gas used for other off-road uses can be submitted including snow blowers, lawn mowers and emergency generators. 🐻

Donation
If you're just getting a small refund, you may be better off to check the block (tax deductible) to donate to either the Navigation Safety Fund (Marine Patrol) or lake quality (milfoil) fund. That';s better (to me) than letting the money lapse to the general fund where it goes to...who knows where it goes? We need money in both these funds to improve our boating experience. Actually, if you're getting a big refund, you can earmark a portion.

Download the form, it lists these on the same form as we use for our boats

You can deduct for off road use, but who would bother for their lawn mower? Unless they are in the business.......

I also have a sub compact tractor which uses diesel. I had to have used close to 100 gallons (including my Sea Doo this year). |

Gas Tax Refund Deadline
Today, April 15, is the deadline to submit applications for a refund for gas used in off-road vehicles, boats, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc. for gasoline purchased in 2016. ⛽️ 🚤 🚜 🛥 🐻

How long does it usually take to get the refund check? I mailed my worksheet and receipts about two months ago. Thanks.

It varies, but has taken a couple of months.

Page 2 of the Gas Tax Refund Form (RT-123) clearly states in column 1 "**Type of Equipment" and below that column is an explanation of the double asterisk (**). It states, "BOAT, SNOWMOBILE, ATV, OHRV, PWC - ONLY". My interpretation of that statement is lawn and garden equipment are excluded, at least on this form. Perhaps there's a different form for the landscaping/lawn maintenance outfits that use a lot of gas? |
I received a form from the State of NH regarding my request for a boat fuel tax refund.
There was a box checked on the form that said something like "insufficient information for fuel type on receipts" basically, denying my refund. Next day in the mail I get a check from them with $2 and change deducted from my original amount of $15 and change...ended up with $13.10. I'll take it. :D |

Bumping this to the top so people don't forget on here!
Hope everyone has a Happy New Year. Already looking forward the Boat Show and getting the boat back in the water!!! Cheers! |
Funny, I've never done this until this year and I mistakenly sent it out early. Took only three days to get back a "don't send this until next year" letter.

Thanks for the reminder!
To make it easy for people to find this form, I put a copy and a link to the NH DOT page on the WinniGas/About page. |
According to Winnigas.com I pay not the cheapest price, but close. They save the receipts and I got them yesterday in the mail along with a blank form. If I saved the receipts myself, at least one would be lost or waterlogged. Not losing any receipts is worth an extra few pennies per gallon when I get back 0.24 per gallon.

I thought the rest of us are only getting 22.2 cents per gallon. |
Just filling out my gas tax refund form for '19, and I used EXACTLY the same gas as last year: 121 (rounded from 120.86 and 120.77). Weird.
Also, a quick question: GBG posted above that she supplies fuel from "gas stations off the lake." Is there a benefit to using marine gas in my soon-to-be-new jetski? My sense is that the detergents and convenience (5-gallon cans are a pain and would need 3, towing out of camp = time/meh) may be worth just filling up on the go? |
If you’re towing it’s a no brainer...fill up anywhere you fill up your car. Just add some Startron or other stabilizer to the Water craft at each fill up.
Of course, if you get low on the lake, go to any convenient marina to top off. |

If you price 89 octane off the lake I think you will see maybe 40-50 cents per gallon difference without stabilizer. Hardly enough to make it worth lugging around gas containers!! Dan |

Remember to wait until January 1. 2020 to send your gas tax rebate form to the state.
One year I mailed mine in December. They mailed it back to me with a letter telling me they would not accept it until January 1st. That is way more efficient than putting the early ones in a box at the state office and waiting until January 1st to process them!:look: Your tax dollars at work! |
What octane?

There is a lot to be said for convenience and it's associated price. You may also want to take advantage of price comparisons of the various marinas using winnigas.com . If trailering to other lakes, use the Gas Buddy app to find your best price along the way (and fill up on the way back). In any case, enjoy the new jetski. Dave |

Also, YES--I will wait until January 1st. I had the same thing happen last year AND the same response about taxpayer money. Sent from my SM-G950U using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |
Not Quite...

For example Fays 89 octane was $3.49 per gallon last summer, off the lake on average was $2.99 per... Like I said, for the convenience I will gladly pay 50 cents more per gallon, get treated gas and have full service by pretty young ladies to boot!! Its a no brainer in my opinion!! Dan |
When I surveyed all the gas docks a year or so ago to be sure I had all the information correct for the WinniGas database, I asked everyone about octane, additives, etc.
I made any notes to each station's notes on https://winnigas.com/liststations Basically, additives are noted as this tends to vary widely (some use StarTron and others use ValveTect, but one station lists both!) and most supply 89 Octane, but I list any differences for those that prefer higher octane. Of course, if a gas dock makes any changes from the time of my survey and doesn't report it to me, I can't update the database. This is why I ask people (customers or gas dock owner/operators) to let me know of any changes. Thanks to everyone that has reported prices into www.WinniGas.com as it helps a lot of boaters on the lake. I've tried to make it as easy as possible to report prices. Back to the gas tax refund, I also have the some information on this subject here including the required forms: https://winnigas.com/about#NHDOT |
