another WIFI question
Setting up my new Metrocast account for WIFI. Do any of you rent their modem or do you buy your own? Im getting just internet service, no cable or phone because I have smart TV and that's enough for our time on the Lake!
|
I rent, I pay about $65.00 per month. I bought Amazone Fire unlocked. I pretty much get everything I could ever want to watch for free.
|
I bought my own wifi cable modem @ Walmart.... it is the same modem they rent you. I HATE giving Metrocost any more money than I have to.

I know, I hate giving them more $$ too. So I have a smart tv so I just need internet. I might purchase my modem too! Thanks. How does the Amazon Fire work? You plug it into your TV I assume. And I need internet connection right?

If you want to save some money and avoid the black market just buy a Fire TV stick for $40 and set it up yourself. Some basic computer skills are helpful or just get someone under 21 to do it. It's not that hard if you can follow directions. There's no real hacking involved. You just have to change a setting and "side-load" a few programs.
There's lots of help on the Web to do this. Here's one site with a video: https://cord-cutters.gadgethacks.com...evice-0165429/ |

Cable modem
Just buy the cable modem. You find them just about everywhere. I bought mine through Amazon for $40. Don't buy the wireless ones as the antennae is very weak. I bought a high speed wireless router for Wi-Fi and switch capability.
I bought the fire stick and loaded KODI. It's a little bit of a learning curve and its good bye cable! Bought mine off the internet for $40. Only beef now is that Metrocast limit the amount of usage per month (350GB). Streaming HD movies will eat that right up! Also, when it rains out the internet will kick in and out. Metrocast will not someone out as they see I bought the cable modem. |
