EFI in Meredith has more layoffs

Another round of layoffs yesterday (12 people) at the EFI plant on route 104.

This comes about a month after senior management told everyone "there won't be any more layoffs"

This must be part of "The Donald's" MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN PLAN!!

Now we'll be down and out, living the welfare side of life

EFI is slated to move to Londonderry in February of 2018 to a new facility. Reason being is there customers don't want to travel an hour from MHT north to Meredith to see our beautiful state and spend money in the lakes region.... sad

You don't happen to go under a different nick here, do you??

Feb 2017 has passed, if you haven't noticed.

12 layoffs and the president is to blame? You infer there were previous layoffs, must have been his fault too.

How many layoffs nationwide? EFI is tracking 1B this year, not a very large company, but with 56 locations worldwide 12 is meaningless. Unless you are one of the 12 I imagine.

But wait, a new facility? So there is new life? Some people must not like the new commute, or did not receive the invite to make the move.

Either way, bitterness with blame wrongfully assigned.

Don't blame the President. Blame the State of New Hampshire. It's 8% business tax is driving businesses out of NH. The Londonderry move is a temporary thing. Eventually, EFI will move to a more business friendly environment. My understanding is that this move was caused by the lack of attracting talent in the Lakes Region. I don't think Londonderry will be much better, but who knows. The reason why talent is fleeing the State is because businesses do not want to invest in NH. My business had an opportunity to invest in a NH location, but decided against it because of the 8% business tax. We were better off paying (and having our employees pay) Massachusetts' 5.35 personal tax. Lower or eliminate the business tax, and businesses will come.

Very few companies in NH pay the BPT or BET taxes and the ones that do pay very little. Labor force availability and quality are bigger factors for not locating in NH.

Kill this thread, someone is trolling.

Can you clarify that a bit for me?... How are profitable businesses in NH not paying this tax?....By lying about profits??....

Thanks!

Dan

My thoughts exactly. I know many, many small business owners, including my dad and my brothers, and all of them pay NH business tax on profits. Other than not being honest, I am not aware of a way to avoid them.

By using various deductions, exemptions, or credits.

SAMIAM 05-18-2017 08:55 AM

The only deductions, credits or exemptions I am aware of come in the form of calling your business profit something else that it isn't or funneling it through your LLC through various means then taking a distribution. Either way its not legit...

I pay it, I hate it but I do pay it! Did I say I hate it?!

My suggestion would be to get a more knowledgeable business tax accountant.

SIKSUKR 05-18-2017 09:45 AM

Thanks for the suggestion but I like my freedom.

You stated... "Very few companies in NH pay the BPT or BET taxes". Having been in business for nearly 30 years I can assure you that simply is NOT true. As a matter of fact every NH business owner I know with receipts that exceed $50,000.00 reluctantly pays this tax.

Just my opinion. That's for the webmaster to decide, certainly not me. You are entitled to your opinions.

Someone isn't cheating. In FY2015 alone the State collected over half a billion (yes, B as in Billion) in revenue from this onerous tax!
